Hello All,
It is recommended to have lighting unit on for 8 hours in a day. My question is do I need to switch light on 8 hours stretch or I can switch light for 4 hours in morning and 4 hours in the evening?
Thanks,
Milind |

Thanks I will do that but any specific reason for this why can't I switch light in morning and evening instead? any scientific reason behind this? |

You can do it either way, there have been lots of discussion on this topic in various forums with no conclusion.
There is a school of thought that split timings help in reducing algae, however Tom Barr had put by a very nice paper with lots of charts and data and came to conclusion that split timings do not have any additional advantage.
Why not have 8 hours in the afternoon.
My tank lights come on a 12 pm and go off at 8 pm, this allows me to see the tank in evening. |

It takes the plants a couple of hours to ramp up their photosynthesis. So if you are doing 4+4 hours you are only getting about 4-5 hours of optimum photosynthetic activity from your plants. Any reason why you want to split the light period ? Also, why is this in the ADA forum ? |

You have to be a subscriber to Tom barr's website to access that article.
Send me your email, maybe I can give you something. |
