I recently went a bought a bag of contra soil 4 mm pellets for my plated aquarium. Any idea what the best fertilizers, plants, fish are best suited to keep in the planted aquarium?
How good is the soil? |

soil is pretty good.....add a top layer of substrate of roughly the same size...it helps to absorb excess nutrients...thats what i was told about my tank
my knowledge is limited to that as im new to planted tanks
wait for expert comments |

Its good for planted tank.
I had used this soil initially in my 35 Gallon planted tank. I had mixed the soil with laterite soil. I had the soil in the mid layer. Both top and bottom were filled with laterite soil. This were done in my first ever planted tank. |

Contro Soil is a good substrate for planted tanks. It is a nutrient rich substrate, so you don't have to use any other layers. I generally use a few spoons of vermi-compost. But that is not really necessary.
I have one pointer though. There are 2 types of contro soil... 2mm & 4mm. The one you have is $mm (as you've mentioned). The 2mm one is the one usually recommended for small carpeting plants. Personally, I've never used the larger grain, so I don't really know if smaller plants will work. You can try though. otherwise, composition wise they're both the same.
Good luck with your tank! |
