Hi to all members,
I am extremely new to this forum, when i just went thru some topics and the pics that have been posted, its cool & nice, although i cant afford that much big tank, i have a tank with measurement of 2.5 ft width and 1.5 ft height
Just a month before i decided to change the set up of my tank with some sand like gravels and with under gravel filter, already i was using a power filter and i don't know its capacity and other things, in the past month i just lost five goldfishes, one by one, when i searched for reasons in online, that under gravel filters may block some essential bacteria growth, and i disconnected the under gravel filter from the air pump, things developed well and no fish died, but yesterday i lost another goldfish as it lost its tail, i am totally confused and sad with the things happening for the past few weeks.
I wish u experienced members can guide me thru this, i am yet to replace new fish for the dead ones, i have also attached my new tank setup with this.......

The most basic thing is to keep the filtration ON. You CANNOT switch off the filter at any cost.
There is nothing wrong with under-gravel filters. You can use it without any problems. The only problem with your tank is that, you cannot use fine sand with an under gravel filter. The sand will clog the UG plates and render the filter useless. Use small sized gravel. It will work well with the UG filter.
the other point being, your tank is overloaded with fish & the wrong types of fish. For a tank of that size, you can stock about 3 or max 4 goldfish. The kois that you have belong to a pond. And that 'shark' will grow too big for your tank.
please give all details of your tank so that people can help you better.
water parameters (if available) - what water you use - ground water, corporation water, RO water etc.
water change schedule - how often & how much water you change. how you do tank maintenance.
how long the tank has been running

My Tank Dimensions are below.......
80cms breadth, 60cms height, 15cms width
Initially i had four pairs of gold fish, 1pair of koi, and one shark
I make a 80% water change of every month and total tank cleaning of every three months, i never switch off my power filters, the tank was running for the past three years.....
Should i use two power filters instead of one?
I use only borewell water but not directly from under ground, i will take it from my over head tank, regarding the contents of water, i don't know where to check it? i am based in chennai tell me the address where they are checking it?

are you sure the width is 15cms? That is only 6 inches or half a foot!
That is only a 20 gallon tank! you can have only one gold fish in that tank.
Firstly, what I suggest is that you give these fishes away & get fishes that suit your aquarium. On the other hand, if goldfish is your choice, then buy a tank large enough for them. If you want to keep 4 goldfish, then the minimum is a 40 gallon tank (approx. 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft)
For the size of your tank, you can house some mollies, platies, guppies, or even some tetras or barbs. But not golds, sharks, and definitely not Kois.
Please decide on what you want to do & post back. You will get a lot of assistance on this forum. The point is to plan first, learn next & then act upon it.
water changes must be done atleast once in 2 weeks. once a week is the best. For a non-planted tank such as yours, you can do a 20% water change every week. But never do a complete wash of the tank. This resets the nitrogen cycle & it could be very harmful for your fishes. Never change more than 50 or 60 % water.
every week take out the decorations from your tank and clean them thoroughly. Clean the inside of the glass with a toothbrush or if you can spend the money, a magnetic glass cleaner. Then use a hose to siphon out the water. While siphoning, you can run it close to your gravel so that detritus is sucked out. then fill the tank back with fresh water. Fill it up slowly using a hose and your hand to reduce the speed of water. pouring water will cause a huge disturbance & will stress your fish and also cause an ammonia spike.
If you want, every three or four months, you can shove your hose into the pipe of your UG filter and suck out some of the detritus. Again, don't remove the entire thing.
Mostly ground water will not cause any problems. If you're able to drink it without any foul taste (salty or hard), or any coloration. Then most probably your water is ok. Water testing is an expensive affair. There are test kits available in some big LFS. If you want to test your water, then get a good reputed brand test kit. Cheap test kits can be inaccurate.
But for now, don't worry about the water. think about your fish & your maintenance.
