Ok, Its time for Update..
But First, before we start..
Electrical Shock Hazard Warning
Be fore warned that.. This DIY involves working on AC power which is very DAGEROUS if you don't know what you are doing. So, If you Don't know any thing about Electricals, then Please don't try this all by yourself. If necessary, don't hesitate to take help from a person from electrical back ground..
And please take all precautions and safety measure applicable when working on Electrics even if you are from electrical back ground..
So, I am not responsible in any way for any damages or injuries caused, all the risk is solely on your side.
So lets start with the wiring schematic..
You have heard the saying.. There's more than one way to skin a cat. I have done it my way..
I wired it up in such a way that a single switch is involved in switching both the bulbs ON/OFF,
The out put from the ballast to the bulbs were simple 1 to 1 connection, pin no1 from ballast to pin no1 on lamp.. so its as simple as 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4.. and remember these are imaginary numbers, there are no actual numbers printed on the bulbs or ballast.
But, the In put Power from the wall out let is through a 3 pin plug, which has a earthing pin (its the green wire in the plug) which is very good from point of safety. the lighting fixture itself is earthed (Chassis earth) trough this pin so that in case of leakages in power, the fixture wont give you a shock..
But in order for this to work, the earthing point in the house wiring must be grounded properly.. normally its not a problem, but some times even electrical people mess it up.. so get some electrician to check whether the earthing point is OK or NOT..
So, Here is the Circuit Diagram or simply the schematics of the wiring..

Shyam,
The thought had crossed my mind. But right now I am desperate to have lights on the tank.. Its been like 4 months with out lights.
I will try and incorporate the timer later.. |

Ok.. Lets look at the list of all the tool and some comsumables I have used. Some of them are common tools, and some of them are not. And these uncommon tools are not absolutely necessary, But they give you the professional finish.. :D
L to R - Soldering flux, Marker, Soldering Lead, Soldering Iron, Knife, Wire stripper, Cable cutter and wire cutter.
Top - Insulated lug / splice Crimper, Bottom - Non Insulated Lug / splice Crimper..
And some consumables - Insulation Tape, Tie wraps, Heat shrinkable tube, Insulated lugs and Non insulated splices..
And a Toggle switch..
I forgot to take snap of Cutting pliers, screw drivers, Tester (Screwdriver type), Drilling gun and bits.. |

@ Thuds..
The reflector was given to me by a IAH member as compliment..
The reflector is actually from an old 4 footer industrial tube light fixture. I guess, you will probably get it as a spare if you ask in a big electrical shops which is located near an industrial area. |

Fantastic diagrammatic representation. A thorough study carried out by you & that's the reason you are doing this with ease. what alternate light solution you opted in those few months, surely tank wasn't planted ? |
