Hello Fellow Hobbyists,
This is Bipin here from Trivandrum, Kerala. I am currently settled in Bangalore after a lot of moving around. I have been maintaining aquariums since my childhood (non-planted or mildly planted)! Never really found the time or opportunity to create a planted version. Really want to give it a shot right now. Only concern is I will be moving to my new apartment in about 7-8 months time. Wondering if it will become a problem to shift the planted tank then. Not sure I can stop myself until then
Experts, kindly advice!
Although I have been following and reading the posts here for a long time, i have only recently registered! Just wanted to say a hi and thanks to all the wonderful people here parting and sharing their knowledge on all things aquarium related!
Hoping to meet some of you guys for the Dec meet. Too bad the Nov one is coinciding with my Mom's retirement.

Hi Bipin, Welcome to IAH..
If the shifting is confirmed, then please postpone the planted tank project..
Because, a planted tank needs 6-8 months to mature. but, by that time you will be shifting, so you will have to start all over again.
So it will be utter waste of time and effort, so instead plan and accumulate all the accessories need (except for plants and live stock) for this project and once for all start in your new home.

Yes, I totally hear you... Moving with my non-planted tanks was in itself a huge pain for me.. that is why i haven't started with my new tank even though its been 4 months since i moved to Bangalore. The planning is already in progress.. thanks for the advice.. cheers..

I am Karthik from Bangalore. I am very interested in knowing and rearing Indian native fish. I have, however a small aquarium at present with only Tiger Barbs and few amazon sword tail plants. I intend to make a "replica" of a river cross section. This has been my childhood dream. I also want to, one day construct a tank in my terrace and replicate a pond environment. I have had an aquarium from childhood, but had a long gap of around 10 years since i last kept a fish at home.
I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful forum and quite intimidated by the technical stuff being discussed.
Hope I can one day realize my dream mentioned above with all you seniors in the forum. Looking forward to discusing with all of you.

I have just joined the forum, so I introduce myself.
I am a keen aquarist (as I believe everyone else here), who is Hungarian but lives in the UK (Wales).
I have been keeping and breeding tropical fish for more than 35 years. So far I have sucessfully bred more than 70 species. My favourites are the corys and Bettas, and - quite recently - the shrimps. I have a small fish-house (shed) with 40 fish tanks (in Hungary I had 70). The shrimps are slowly taking over it from the fish, now I am keeping shrimps in 17 tanks.
At the moment I am keeping and breeding the followings: CRS, Bee Shrimp (CBS),Golden bee, BTOE, RCS (Painted red and Sakura) Green shrimp, Blue rili / jelly, Indian tiger (Zebra) and Taiwan bees (KK, WR, BB)
