 Alman,
A  really  interesting  thread,  in  all.  I  think  you  should  drill  another  hole  in  the  filter,  just  below  the  brim,  slightly  of  bigger  diameter.  This  would  be  an  overflow  mechanism,  When  water  starts  flowing  through  this  overflow,  you'll  know  time  has  come  to  clean  you  filter  media.
In  absence  of  such  an  arrangement,  if  the  media  chokes,  the  sump  water  would  overflow  on  floor  and  the  tank  would  be  empty  in  hours  !

To  cool  the  sump  add  a  shower  kind  of  device  that  is  attached  in  garden  hosepipe  to  water  the  plants.  This  may  be  attached  in  noon  and  taken  off  at  night.
Hope  you  get  my  two  cents.

Thanks  for  your  helpful  two  cents  Saurabh  Mathur  !!!

Actually  I  have  the  shower  kinda  thing  ready  to  be  placed.  But  not  sure  where  to  attach  it?  does  it  need  to  go  in  the  outlet  and  the  inlet  of  the  filter  which  is  on  the  top?  and  planning  to  keep  it  all  time.

Regarding  the  overflow,  I  was  thinking  to  reverse  the  inlet  and  outlet  in  my  current  filter.  So  the  inlet  will  become  the  bottom  hole  and  outlet  will  be  like  a  water  fall.  Like  the  one  we  have  here  http://www.pondfilter.com/images/products/display/LP_Waterfall_filter_photo_F100.jpg

But  not  sure  whether  the  purpose  of  this  filter  will  go  into  a  task.  Currently  I  believe  because  of  this  wet  dry  method  filter  I  do  not  have  any  green  algae  bloom  (I  believe  so)

 Alman,
The  shower  should  be  at  outlet  so  that  water  falls  as  a  shower  into  the  tank.  This  oxygenates  the  water  and  all  the  time  cools  it  as  well.  It  should  be  taken  out  at  night  because  this  cooling  may  reduce  the  temperature  drastically  at  night.  You  may  not  like  too  many  temperature  swings  in  the  tank.  This  is  just  a  cost  effective  and  very  raw  method  of  cooling  the  tank.  Better  idea  would  be  to  add  a  heater  to  the  tank  which  could  compensate  temperature  swings  at  night.

As  far  as  inlet  from  bottom  is  concerned  I'm  against  it.  Look  at  it  this  way.  When  inlet  of  sump  is  from  bottom,  all  the  muck  and  dirty  water  stays  at  the  bottom  of  sump  while  clean  water  from  top  overflows  into  the  tank.  Fine  till  now.
But  this  is  India.  Consider  a  power  cut.  All  the  muck  and  dirty  water  will  again  flow  back  into  the  tank  due  to  gravity.  A  solution  could  be  non  return  valve  at  bottom,  but  why  complicate  things  when  an  easier  option  is  available.

Thanks  Saurabh.  I  will  stick  with  current  filter  method.

Currently  I  am  battling  with  hair  algae  Sad
Will  be  introducing  pressured  co2  from  tomorrow  for  6  hrs.  Hope  this  will  bost  the  plant  growth  and  make  the  hair  algae  disappear.
Also  planning  to  hookup  a  powerhead  or  something  to  increase  the  water  flow  inside  the  tank.  That  way  derbies  wont  be  settling  on  the  plants  and  boost  the  hair  algae.

Any  suggestions  to  handle  this  battle  is  most  welcome.

 @alman,

the  sunlight  will  change  with  each  season,  and  summers  you  will  have  to  watch  out  for.  A  good  idea  otherwise.  perhaps  you  could  use  the  tank  to  just  propagate  plants  in  case  the  risk  of  heating  is  too  much.  Or  take  the  fish  inside  when  the  seasons  change?

Thanks  for  your  suggestion  Romi,  Will  note  it  down!!

Ok,  here  are  few  updates  on  controlling  Green  hair  algae,
 -  Added  the  plastic  transparent  sheet  for  shade
 -  Added  one  internal  filter  to  circulate  the  water  inside  the  pond
 -  Introduced  pressured  co2  (I  think  3  bps)  for  5-6  hrs  a  day.

After  3  days  of  above  setup  change,  I  should  say  WooooW  Smile
All  hair  Algae  disappeared  leave  no  trace  of  if  existence!!!!  What  else  I  can  ask  for!

Here  are  couple  of  latest  pics  and  a  short  video!!  do  not  miss  the  last  1  min  of  the  video  showing  hand  feeding  the  fishes!

In  middle  of  busy  diwali  weekend  ahead,  thought  will  post  a  quick  pic  of  the  current  status  of  the  pond.
Plants  are  coming  out  good  and  fish  seem  enjoying  there  new  layout!!
added  some  new  plants  and  some  fishes.
 Here  is  the  fish  list
 -  Guppys
 -  molles
 -  rummy  nose
 -  harlequin  rasboras
 -  fire  foxes
 -  yamato  shrimps
 -  red  cherry  shrimps
 -  otto's
 -  corydoras

I  thought  apart  from  the  live  bearers  above  in  the  list  might  suffer  due  to  weather.  But  all  seem  very  happy  and  enjoying  in  the  pond.
esp  the  yamato  shrimps  which  are  in  slight  blue  color  most  of  the  time  (i  think  when  its  blue  it  mean  they  are  happy).

ok  let  me  stop  blabbering  here  is  quick  pick.

On  the  side  note,  long  waited  stand  (ada  style)  is  done  today  for  my  2ft  aquarium.  Will  start  the  separate  thread  for  it.
now  in  the  hunt  to  get  a  aluminum  rod  to  fix  as  a  light  hanger.  Any  one  in  chennai….  please  let  me  know  if  you  know  any  place  to  get  this  aluminum  rod.

Cylinder  in  the  picture  is  a  cooking  cylinder  and  not  co2  cylinder  Wink.

 Venkat,
I  felt  those  curtain  (hallow)  rods  will  be  little  thicker  and  if  its  a  solid  rod  with  half  inch  diameter,  that  will  be  slim  and  sleek.  At  the  same  time  they  might  be  invisible  in  the  distant  view  Smile
And  also,  I  like  the  aluminum  rod  that  I  got  along  with  my  other  light  fixture.  So  that  is  also  a  main  reason  to  get  a  aluminum  rod.

One  thought  on  that  hallow  rods  is,  if  the  light  unit  is  little  heavy  (incase  of  metal  valid  with  inbuilt  ballast)  then  they  might  bend.  Thats  what  I  feel.

Will  see,  I  am  visiting  amabattur  industrial  area  tomorrow,  Might  get  lucky  in  getting  a  aluminum  solid  rod.
