 Hi  All,

 My  Tank  spec  is  ..

 Size  -30(L)x12(W)x18(H)
Light  -  14w  x  3  Philips  T5  (2Ft)  compact  tube  light  with  each  bulb  6500k  (which  is  written  on  the  bulb).

Is  this  light  sufficient  for  my  planted  aquarium  ?  The  lights  are  hanging  5  inches  above  the  water  level  .Please  let  me  know  if  I  have  to  go  for  higher  output.

I  have  plants  on  one  side  2  ft  length  and  the  other  1/2  feet  is  left  as  rocky  area  with  no  plantation.  The  2  ft  tube  lights  are  above  the  planted  area.

I  am  planning  to  medium  demand  plants.

 Please  let  me  know.

 Regards
 Prasan

Good  chart..  But  it  lacks  on  what  wattage  of  each  tube.  As  T5HO  is  available  in  2  feet,  3  feet  and  4  feet  length  with  24Watts,  39Watts  and  54Watts.  Which  tube  is  referred  in  the  chart  when  they  say  T5HO?

 Hi  Prasan,

 1.  It's  crucial  that  all  of  the  generated  light  is  focused  right  into  the  tank.  You  will  have  to  get  good  reflectors  otherwise,  a  lot  of  light  will  be  wasted,  regardless  of  the  wattage.

 2.  The  lights  can  be  staggered.  If  you  have  5  t5s,  you  could  set  it  this  way  -

 ______
       ______
 ______
       ______
 ______

 Plants  -  Rocks

The  2  lamps  on  the  right  will  contribute  light  to  the  left  side  and  the  right  side  (with  rocks)  will  not  look  awfully  dark  compared  to  the  other  side.

 3.  Would  be  good  to  have  at  least  1  or  2  more  t5s  with  your  current  setup.  The  t5  you  have  is  HE  (high  efficiency)  as  opposed  to  HO  (High  output).  If  possible,  try  to  get  the  7000K-8000k  ones.  With  higher  number  of  lamps  and  a  wider  array,  it  may  be  possible  to  lower  the  height  by  1-3  inches,  increasing  the  PAR  significantly  (between  medium  and  medium-high)

 Regards,

 Abhishek
