 Dear  all,
 Tank  dimensions  are  48  inches  L  x  18  inches  B  x  22  inches  H.
What  would  be  the  lighting  requirements?
 How  many  wattages  required?
I  have  one  6500k  osram  need  to  check  the  wattage  though  as  I'll  get  it  from  a  friend  later  on.
What  about  mixing  LEDs  with  a  single  4  feet  osram  tube?
The  tank  is  hooded  one  hence  would  it  face  heating  issues  by  the  amount  of  wattage  considered  for  lighting  ?

What  kind  of  setup  are  u  looking  for  ,  mid  high  or  low  tec...  If  u  r  thinking  of  a  tank  with  lush  growth  and  nice  forground  go  for  hightec...  If  u  want  a  lowtec  with  anubias  and  ferns  use  two  t8  tubes  under  the  hood..  Since  your  using  the  hood  the  temperature  may  rise  3  to  4  degrees.

 Hi  Murtazadhanera,

For  our  climate  heater  is  not  all  necessary,  best  temp  for  planted  tank  is  around  24  to  25  degree  Celsius,  some  hobbyist  use  chiller  so  they  use  heater  to  maintain  a  constant  temp,  in  my  case  i  use  heater  only  when  fish  get  ich(white  spot)  that  too  for  4-5days  max,  Also  in  my  experience  when  i  setup  my  1st  planted  tank  i  lost  all  my  carpet  plants,  and  stem  plants  with  algae,  then  found  the  issue  with  my  water,  temp  and  light,  my  tank  is  36  x  17  x  21,  and  i  use  aquazonic  39w  x  4  T5  HO  with  12000k,  when  i  rescaped  my  tank  i  switched  on  only  2  bulbs  for  4  hours  initial  and  used  RO  water  with  seachem  equilibrium  to  re-mineralise  it  and  maintaining  200  TDS,  because  in  my  place  my  tap  water  is  mixture  of  soft  and  hard  water  with  1500  TDS,  so  if  you  have  good  water  no  need  of  RO  water  and  also  my  water  temp  is  29-30  so  i  added  fan  which  brought  the  temp  to  25-26  and  i  gradually  increased  the  lighting  to  7  hours  and  now  its  4  month  i  use  3  bulbs  only  with  2  12000k  and  1  6500k  bulb  and  doing  pps-pro  dosing  and  i  don't  have  any  algae  and  mainly  my  tank  is  doing  really  great  all  my  plants  are  healthy,  carpet  plant  also  covered  the  area  within  a  month.

Now  i  have  3  tank  all  are  doing  great,  i  really  learnt  one  thing  from  my  experience  when  you  setup  a  new  tank  don't  give  too  much  light,  fertilizer  and  co2  at  the  start  till  your  plants  settle,  because  if  you  give  too  much  which  your  plant  doesn't  require  then  your  tank  will  give  birth  to  algae  to  take  care  the  extra.  And  yes  follow  the  10x  flow  rule  i.e.  if  your  tank  is  200litre  then  your  your  filter  flow  should  be  2000  litre  per  hour.  And  happy  to  know  the  above  article  helped  you  Smile

Yep  that  is  so  true  about  initial  algae  problems.  But  other  way  would  be  fluctuating  and  varying  the  lights  just  rather  than  going  from  dim  to  bright.  If  you  can  breakdown  their  supplement  source  with  irregularities  they  will  die.

yep  yep  substrate  heating  coil  also  not  required,  for  some  rare  plant  they  keep  this  to  keep  the  root  warm  but  if  your  place  is  really  cold  then  you  can  give  a  try  otherwise  not  required  Smile
