I have a 2 feet yumei tank , which hadd been a normal aquarium . want to convert it to a low tech planted aquarium . it comes with a lid which holds 2 t8 tube lights . Plz do guide me for the following queries i have
1 . My choice of substrate is going to be red soil , however i would like to know if contra soil is a better choice ?
2 . i read here that t5 tubes are preferred than t8 for planted aquarium , however has anyone been sucessful in having a planted aquarium with t8 lighting . there is no option to replace the t8 20w tube in my tank to T5 , since the size is diff and i dont want to go for a lighting kit .
3 . i am planning to have a carpet plant like hc cuba and other easy to grow and cheap plants . Plz give suggestion for my set up .
4 . Planning to have neon tetras and shrimp , if possible few guppies .
5 . we use bore water in our house , can i use the same ? since we dont have a RO system . How frequently we have to change the water ?
6 . Right now i am no going to set up a co2 system . and the tank comes with a boyu filtration system on the hood . Do i need additional filters .

for low tech planted aquarium T8 light are more sufficient always try to use light with a spectrum of 6500k-8500k with 700-1000 lumens bulb
1. Contro soil is good
2. T8 lighting is also but use 6500k-8000k bulb or you can buy pll lighting for cheap.
3. for low tech plant HC cuba is not advisable it require co2 and high light and fert, you can try monte carlo, Go for anubias, java fern for your setup check the below site for more easy growing plants
