 Hi,

The  fish  will  be  fine  with  out  feeding  for  up  to  two  weeks.  If  you  are  using  a  heater  then  switch  it  off.  Make  sure  the  filtration  and  air  stone  stay  on  during  this  time.  Do  a  50%  water  change  before  you  leave.  Make  sure  you  have  fed  the  fish  before  the  water  change,  since  they  usually  poop  a  few  minutes  after  eating.  Do  not  over  feed  them.

Most  of  the  plants  are  hardy  and  can  survive  for  3-4  days  with  out  lights  on.  Don't  take  the  trouble  of  asking  some  one  to  feed  your  fish,  they  will  invariably  do  more  harm  if  they  are  not  familiar  with  the  amount  to  feed.

Preeti  is  bang  on.   Good  water  change,   cut  of  heater  only  if  the  room  temperature  is  ideal  for  the  fish  you  keep,  do  filter  maintainence  a  week  prior  to  journey,   add  additional  filter  and  aireator  to  the  tank.

Lights  and  feeding  will   not  be  a  problem  for  the  travel  duration.

 Regards
 Surya

thanks  but  i  think  ill  do  what  preetham  suggested  and  spend  the  550  on  the  betterment  of  the  tank  because  the  timer  will  be  of  no  use  once  i  am  back  xD

You  can  always  use  the  timer  again,  when  you  leave  next  for  a  similar  vacation.
You  can  also  giveaway  the  timer,  or  sell  it  off  after  a  small  depreciation  in  price.

Ask  a  neighbor,  friend  or  a  relative  who  lives  nearby,  to  drop  in  and  feed  your  fish  once  a  day.  That  way,  your  home  remains  safe  and  checked  as  well.

Some  people  use  the  holiday  fish  food  tablets.  Some  find  them  irritating  as  they  cloud  the  water  and  make  it  murky.

The  timer  is  of  great  help  even  otherwise  so  it  wont  go  waste.  Its  a  good  investment.

Yes  its  best  to  ask  some  one  to  feed  your  fish.

My  brother  helps  me  to  do  that

Feed  fish  once  in  two  days  and  dosing  micro  and  macro  nutrients  and  glut

I  make  a  chart  for  him  to  follow  on  quantities  for  feeding  and  dosing
Also  advice  the  person  to  always  check  that  the  filters  are  running  before  he  leaves  the  house.

I  dont  know  what  others  do  for  pressurised  CO2  because  I  think  that  needs  more  monitoring

I  just  returned  from  a  10-day  vacation.  So  to  take  of  the  feeding  had  made  20  paper  sachets  each  containing  a  dose  of  food.  Told  my  maid  to  dispense  each  sachet  twice  a  day  into  the  tank.
