 Hi  all,

Seen  a  lot  of  planted  setups  with  canister  filter,  however  noticed  that  none  of  them  use  a  spray  bar  ..is  the  water  flow  better  without  spray  bar.

It  is  to  distribute  the  water  flow.  The  flow  rate  of  the  pump  will  reduce  by  a  negligible  amount  if  spray  bar  is  used  as  the  back  pressure  in  the  system  will  increase  marginally.

 Advantages  of  Spray  Bar

 1.  Circulates  the  water
 2.  The  Fertilisers  are  distributed  into  the  water  column
 3.  If  possiple  try  to  pull  the  water  from  just  above  th  substrate,  bring  it  to  the  top  into  the  spray  bar,  temprature  will  drop  in  summer
 4.  flowing  water  keeps  good  growth  to  plants  like  ferns
 5.  flowing  water  helps  plants  to  absrob  ferts  fromt  ehwater  column

A  spray  bar  hinders  plant  growth  in  the  planted  tank.  If  placed  above  the  water  line  it  will  degas  CO2.  If  placed  below  the  water  line  it  will  push  the  plants  from  the  back  of  the  tank  to  the  front.  meaning  you  cant  have  tall  plants  and  it  will  also  look  ugly.  I  haven't  seen  a  glass  spray  bar  yet.  Shocked

It  really  looks  out  of  place  in  a  planted  tank.  In  a  non  planted  tank  use  it.

 Dear  all,
 I  would  like  to  disagree.
For  people   with  just  power  heads,  a  spray  bar  is  a  great  boon.
It   negates  the  strong   outlet  flow,  and   creates  a   gentle  flow.
If   placed  properly,   they  create  a  flow  that  is  excellent  for  distribution  of   co2   and   nutrients.
I   would   like  to  use  it   when  I   get  a  canister  filter.
 Thanks,
   Arin

A  spray  bar  works  very  well  in  a  planted  tank  as  it  makes  sure  the  flow  in  the  tank  is  as  evenly  distributed  as  possible  ensuring  that  there  are  no  dead  spots  and  all  parts  of  the  tank  receive  adequate  co2  and  ferts

 Use  it

you  can  use  anything,  most  of  them  changes  to  lily  pipe  for  good  looking,  whatever  output  you  use  you  need  to  find  the  right  spot  in  your  tank  for  better  circulation  to  avoid  dead  spot.  i  was  using  spraybar  which  comes  with  eheim  2215  for  2  years  never  had  issues  water  flow  and  like  Mortis  said  spray  bar  is  the  one  output  where  you  won't  find  dead  spot  when  you  follow  the  thumb  rule,  and  do  note  spray  bar  never  reduces  pressure  at  all.  because  i  have  tested  the  output  flow  with  spray  bar,  lily  pipe  and  open  output  with  timer.
