 Hi  Team,

My  tank  seems  to  have  been  infested  with  Anchorowrms.

I  have  already  quarantined  the  molly  fish  that  has  it.

But  how  can  I  treat  the  tank  ,  is  their  any  effective  medicine  available  ?

Mine  is  a  50  gallon  tank  ,  moderately  planted.

 Regards
 Sai

 Sai

I  lost  a  fish  once  due  to  this.  I  tried  removing  it  but  it  ripped  out  a  fin.  Some  say  use  a  nail  cutter  to  cut  the  worm  but  its  tough  to  catch  the  fish  unless  you  remove  it  and  place  it  on  a  white  towel  and  then  cut  it.  Like  a  surgical  proceedure.

Later  I  found  online  maybe  this  will  help.

 Anchor  Worm  (Lernaea)
Symptoms:  The  fish  scrapes  itself  against  objects,  whitish-green  threads  hang  out  of  the  fish's  skin  with  an  inflamed  area  at  the  point  of  attachment.
Anchor  worms  are  actually  crustaceans.  The  young  are  free  swimming  and  borrow  into  the  skin,  go  into  the
muscles  and  develop  for  several  months  before  showing.  They  release  eggs  and  die.  The  holes  left  behind  are  ugly
 and  may  become  infected.
The  anchor  worm  is  too  deeply  imbedded  to  safely  remove.  Treatment  can  best  be  done  with  a  10  to  30  minute
bath  in  10  mg  per  liter  of  potassium  permanganate.  Or  treat  the  whole  tank  with  2  mg  per  liter,  but  this  method  is
 messy  and  dyes  the  water

Potassium  Permanganate  for  the  anchor  worms,  and  salt  bath  for  the  wounds  that  the  worms  will  leave  behind.

I  suggest  quarantining  the  fish  in  another  tank/tub  containing  aged  tank  water,  and  adding  salt  there.  After  fish  acclimatize  to  the  salt,  make  PP  baths  in  another  tub/bucket,  then  place  the  fish  in  the  quarantine  tank  again.  Do  large  water  changes  to  control  ammonia  and  nitrate  levels.

With  PP,  your  main  tank  will  de-cycle.  So,  ideally,  use  quarantine  tub/tank/bucket  for  fish,  and  thoroughly  clean  your  main  tank,  with  larger  doses  of  PP  when  there  are  no  live  fish  and  plants  in  it.  Then  salt  wash  it  with  a  salt  dose  so  high,  that  your  fingers  might  sting.  Rinse  it  with  fresh  water,  and  then  cycle  the  tank  with  the  plants  and  substrate  in  it,  and  then  only  introduce  the  fishes  back.

It  comes  as  pinkish  crystals  in  plastic  wrap.  Ask  for  smallest  pack  of  Potassium  Permanganate  from  Chemist  shop  nearest  to  your  house,  commonly  known  as  Red  medicine,  used  for  cleaning  wounds.
