 Hi  Guys,

I  have  ordered  a  bunch  of  pogostemon  helferi.  It  will  arrive  next  week.  Any  one  have  experience  about  growing  them?  Any  tips  are  welcome.  They  are  going  into  a  high  light  tank  with  pressurized  CO2.  the  tank  has  heavy  water  flow.  Should  i  just  plant  them  in  the  substrate  or  tie  them  to  rocks?

Plant  them  in  substrate.  Pogos  prefer  soft  water  in  my  experience.  Donot  change  large  amount  of  water  at  a  time;  this  may  cause  melting.  Pogos  also  prefer  water  flow  around  it.

 Hope  this  helps.

The  tank  has  been  running  for  a  year  now.  I  am  using  ADA  Amazonia  substrate,  with  EI  dosing.
 30-40%  weekly  water  changes.
 Lights:  2  X  26  watts  PLL.  -  8.5  hrs
 CO2:  2  BPS  -  8.5  hrs
 60  X  30  X  37  cm  tank.
350  GPH  filter  ...  Since  the  tank  is  at  a  height  the  flow  is  reduced.

 Edit:  its  36W  PLL

that  should  be  quite  sufficient  in  my  opinion.  If  you  got  good  healthy  specimens,  they  will  catch  up  well.

The  red  is  due  to  phosphates.  There's  no  different  helferi,  people  have  grown  it  here

So  do  I  add  more  phosphates  to  get  a  red  coloring?  whats  the  recommended  amount  of  dosing  to  try  getting  it  to  turn  red?

Usually  doesn't  sustain  red  in  tank,  the  redness  comes  because  of  a  stress  caused  from  high  light.  Like  blyxa-red  it's  actually  protecting  itself  and  becomes  red.  In  a  way  its  like  you're  killing  the  plant  to  get  the  redness.  The  redness  can  easily  sustain  when  grown  emersed.  In  submerged  it's  not  worth  it,  you'll  kill  more  than  you  can  grow.

But  if  you  still  want.  In  a  balance  increase  your  lighting  and  phosphates,  reduce  nitrates.  You  may  get  it.  Have  done  the  same  for  glosso  and  blyxa  to  get  them  red

Thanks  for  the  tips  Navneeth,  for  now  will  leave  it  as  it  is.  I  will  give  it  a  try  in  a  different  tank  once  i  have  some  extra  from  trimming  it.

The  plants  are  growing  well,  but  what  I  am  noticing  is  that  if  I  trim  and  replant,  the  trimmings  are  growing  well  but  not  the  original  plant.  the  growth  of  side  shoots  seems  rather  slow.  The  plants  are  growing  tall,  not  more  than  1.5  inches  in  Diameter.  The  space  between  inter-nodes  is  less  than  5mm,  so  not  sure  if  this  is  normal.  I  though  the  plants  would  grow  larger.  Is  this  the  effect  of  too  much  light?  just  4"  of  water  above  the  plants,  2  X  2  foot  T8  tubes  is  giving  the  lighting  now.  Co2  is  at  1.5  BPS.  EI  dosing.

Had  to  put  them  in  a  different  tank  than  planned  due  to  CO2  availability.  I'd  say  they  are  as  hardy  as  crypts  once  they  settle  in.
