Hi,
need an advice on lighting.
I bought a used SUNSUN aquarium from one of the member of this forum and tried to setup a planted aquarium. The lighting with the tank comprised of two T8 fluorescent lights. a blue one & pink 14000 Kelvin one. The lighting was good and plants were green. one fine day the blue light stopped working. there was a 14K kelvin pink light was working. I got a replacement for blue and my plants started rotting. Today I replaced the blue t8 with ADA FL20SSNA. the difference is very evident. I hope my plants will grow good now.
the question: Can I replace the pink 14000K one with ADA FL20SSNA? The pink 14000K is not giving out much light. will it b better to replace it with more lumen providing ADA FL20SSNA?
Thanks a ton for helping me out. |

Go ahead and replace it. Pink lights are not suitable for planted tanks |

Hi Sudhi
Plants do gud in spectrum of 3000k to 8000k. Above this its not useful, u will get brush algae.
Ideally u can also opt for 6500k
Thanks

Thanks guys,
I think the ADA lights are 6500K but has more lumen.
I will change the pink light to the ADA one as well.
Thanks again, for the guidance. |

Dont waste your money on fancy tubes. The difference in performance is minimal but difference in price is huge. Buy ordinary 6500K Cool daylight tunes from your nearby electrical shop |

Please update your location
Do a small experiment of school to understand Lights and colours and spectrum
Make a round wheel of paper color the whole VIBGYOR on it and rotate it, it will become white
You should ask the seller why he had used blue and pink lights previously.
well.... firstly all the lights we purchase from vendors are basically for Homes. These lights are all WHITE!
The real meaning of spectrum means these white lights emit certain rays- viz red, green blue, and others.
The power of these rays and the combination of these rays is called spectrum.
Those White lights which have Blue rays in higher range and red rays in lower range, and green in medium range are extremely good for plants.
We buy WHITE lights which actually give out more of green rays and little red and medium blue that is where all the trial and error starts- But no problem its good to go back to basics
Check the spectrum of white lights of your branded stuff and tell us |

No I couldn't explain, for that I have to call up albert
In short there is too much of theory for that, a new thread can be opened. But this is just for a lay man to understand what to get for a good planted tank.
and honestly.... its too complex. |
