 HI  Every  one,

I  am  new  to  IAH,  I  recently  bought  a  aquarium  tank.  Cycled  water  for  2  days  and  left  8  gold  and  1  Black  Moor  Goldfish  as  per  Vastu.
But  due  to  my  negligence  3  fishes  dead.  Now  water  is  becoming  cloudy  every  week  thought   I  have  a  filter  running  24hrs.

Also,  gold  fishes  when  I  bought  had  good  color  but  now  after  a  month  the  color  of  the  fishes  is  reducing.  Hence,  kindly  suggest  good  food  for  gold  fishes  and  also  how  to  maintain  a  aquarium  with  ONLY  GOLD  FISHES.

 Regards,
 ROHIT

 Hello  Rohit  Gowda,

 Welcome  to  IAH.

Gold  fishes  are  one  of  the  easiest  to  keep  and  very  pretty  too.  Provided  we  take  care  of  a  couple  of  things,
 1)  Properly  cycled  aquarium.  2  days  is  not  sufficient.
 2)  Adequate  size  of  your  aquarium.  Gold  fishes  need  large  volumes  of  water.
 3)  Proper  filtration.
 4)  Careful  feeding  regimen.  Goldfishes  always  act  hungry.  So  you  have  to  decide  how  much  to  feed.  Never  over  feed.

Kindly  mention  your  tank  size,  Filter  capacity  and  method  you  used  to  cycle  your  aquarium.

Immediate  remedy  right  now  to  save  the  rest  of  your  fishes  is  20%  water  change  daily,  with  same  temperature  water  as  in  aquarium.  Reduce  feeding.  Do  not  add  any  more  fishes  till  the  situation  stabilizes.

 Regards,

 Hi  Nayak,

 Thank  you  for  the  suggestions.

The  tank  size  I  use  is  small  (15"*10"*12"  inches)  and  the  capacity  of  the  filter  I  am  not  sure,  but  it  is  a  very  small,  one  suitable  for  my  aquarium.

The  method  I  used  was  did  the  complete  setup  with  marbles  and  plastic  plant  and  kept  the  filter  running  for  2  days  and  then  added  fishes,  all  9  fishes  together.  As  you  said  the  fishes  always  comes  up  when  I  go  near  by  as  if  they  are  hungry  but  I  am  feeding  them  daily  once  which  they  will  finish  in  5  minutes

 Regards,
 ROHIT

The  tank  is  highly  over  crowded.  It  might  be  just  sufficient  for  a  single  gold  fish  with  good  maintenance  regime.

 Humaid

 Hello  Rohit,

Humaid  is  correct.  That  is  too  small  an  aquarium  for  Gold  fishes.  Upgrade  your  aquarium  to  a  larger  size  if  possible,  an  48*18*18  Inch.  If  not  go  for  smaller  fishes  like  Endlers,  Guppies  or  even  the  colorful  shrimps.

 HI  Humaid  and  Nayak,

Thank  you  for  the  information.  I  will  try  changing  the  aquarium.

Now  I  see  that  there  is  lice  worms  attacking  my  fishes.  I  have  removed  the  lice  manually  from  the  body  of  fishes  around  11  worms.
Cleaned  the  aquarium  also  I  have  order  medicine  Paracidol  online  from  Amazon  to  avoid  future  attacks.

Wanted  to  know  is  there  any  other  way  to  remove  these  lice  worms,  I  have  even  added  uniodized  salt  to  water  after  cleaning.

 Regards,
 ROHIT

 Hayath  Thank  you!!

 Hi  Garothmaan,

I  am  from  Bangalore,  Rajarajeshwari  nagar.

When  I  was  probably  in  7th  standard  my  brother  had  prepared  a  hand  made  aquarium  and  initially  started  with  guppies  and  mollies.
My  brother  was  out  of  station  and  he  had  asked  me  to  wash  the  tank,  I  cleaned  that  with  soap  and  surf.  After  leaving  the  fishes  all  the  fishes  died.  This  was  because  it  was  not  washed  properly  with  and  did  not  remove  detergents  completely.  Later  I  started  realizing  how  should  be  cleaned  and  maintained  of  basics.

Then  started  again  after  3  or  4  yrs  gap  with  a  2'  tank  and  now  having  a  3'  tank  having  community  fishes  in  my  own  house  @  T.Dasarhalli.

I  am  in  rented  house  @RR  nagar,  bought  a  small  tank  15''*8''*12"  and  started  with  gold  fishes  as  I  like  them.  All  the  time  I  was  passionate  about  fishes  and  aquarium  but  did  not  explore  much.  I  always  keep  watching  fishes  at  home  and  get  relaxed.

Now  because  of  my  friend  &  colleague  Syed  Anees(Annu)  getting  involved  more  into  fish  hobby  Cheer  .

 Regards,

Can  you  please  advice  on  how  to  setup  planted  for  goldies,  because  they  feed  on  them  and  it  is  difficult  to  keep  plants.
Can  you  share  the  photo  of  you  aquarium.

Maintaining  gold  fish  is  tough,  but  if  we  have  proper  equipments  for  aquarium  it  can  be  much  easier.
 Few  tips  for  maintenance  are:
 1.  Checking  water  condition.
 2.  Elimination  of  organic  waste.
 3.  Change  of  water  periodically.
 4.  Tank  filtration.
These  tips  can  help  a  lot  and  for  additional  sources  like  aquaristic  seachem  is  the  another  option  to  safeguard  you  aquarium  goldfish.
