 Hi  all,

Yesterday  I  cleaned  up  the  filter  as  I  saw  some  discoloration,  there  was  lot  of  dirt  in  the  filter  as  it  was  close  to  2  months   since  I  set  this  up.  The  seller  told  me  that  the  cleaning  is  required  only  once  in  3  months,  mistake  I  guess.

Anyways,  after  the  clean  up,  I  witnessed  the  beautiful  pearling  or  water  bubbles  in  my  aquarium.  I  captured  the  moment  using  my  cell  phone.  It  was  like  an  aerated  tank.

 Hi,

My  tank  has  a  green  hair  algae  infection  which  is  making  my  maintenance  hell,  I  am  doing  quarter  to  half  water  changes  every  alternate  day  and  also  manually  removing  them  whenever  possible.  Dosing  with  Excel  after  the  water  change.  This  was  caused  because  I  was  out  of  town  and  the  person  who  was  feeding  may  have  added  extra  food.

How  do  I  deal  with  this  menace,  please  help.  You  can  see  a  pic  below,  plants  are  not  in  good  shape.

As  per  tank  mates,  replaced  the  Rainbow  tetras  with  Rummy  nose.  The  tank  is  peaceful  now.

Increase  circulation,  increase  phosphate  dosing.  Spot  dose  Hydrogen  peroxide.  Possible  remedies  for  hair  algae.

Thank  you  Karthik,  I  have  brought  Hydrogen  peroxide  from  the  medical  store.  Will  do  on  the  dosing  on  weekend.  Should  I  remove  the  shrimps?

I  am  yet  to  do  the  Hydrogen  peroxide  treatment,  a  friend  suggested  to  keep  the  lights  to  minimal,  add  some  more  shrimps  and  try  natural  methods  before  chemical  treatment.  So  I  cleaned  up  the  tank,  manually  removed  lot  of  them  and  now  lights  off  for  most  of  the  time.  I  will  let  you  know  the  progress.

Algae  is  getting  controlled,  I  have  reduced  my  lighting  to  3-4  hours  per  day  and  that  too  is  not  continuous.  The  aquarium  is  in  a  much  better  shape  now  than  before.  Shot  a  video  of  the  same.

I  had  added  two  assassin  snails  when  I  had  a  pond  snail  infection  couple  of  months  back,  now  I  don't  have  that  snail.  Today  I  found  a  small  assassin  snail  fry  in  the  tank.  Will  assassin  snails  also  multiply  like  mad  and  infect  the  tank?

Congratulations  Prem.  Your  Assasin  snails  are  breeding  Cheering     Thumbs Up
At  present  you  need  not  worry  since  these  snails  wont  grow  so  fast  in  number.  You  may  sell  the  excess  snail  babies  or  exchange  against  your  required  fishes  /  plants  etc.

 Hi  Prem,

Could  you  share  your  excel  dosage  details  please?
I  will  be  setting  up  my  lights  this  weekend  and  was  wondering  if  I  can  use  your  dosage/schedule  as  reference  since  we  are  kind  of  using  the  same  lights.
Also,  are  you  dosing  any  ferts  as  of  now?

 Hi  Abhi,

I  am  dosing  Excel  1  to  2  ml  every  3  days  when  I  do  a  40  -  50%  water  change.  I  am  also  using  Flourish  which  is  supposed  to  have  Micro  elements  and  Trace  elements.  This  3-5  drops.  My  schedule  is  Wednesday  and  Sunday.

 Regards,
 Prem
