 Hi,

Made  co2  indicator  solution  using  4dkh  and  bromothymol  .04  %  solution,  which  is  working  fine  below  is  the  pic

for  making  4dkh  solution  i  mixed  1.1  gram  baking  soda  in  1000ml  deionized  water  which  will  give  1000ml  40dkh  and  took  100ml  40dkh  solution  and  added  in  900ml  deionized  water  to  give  1000ml  4dkh  solution

And  in  drop  checker  used  2ml  4dkh  solution  and  added  2  drops  bromothymol  blue  solution  in  drop  checker  which  works  pretty  good  like  the  manufacture  solution

 Hi  Andrew

With  help  from  Alister  and  Saurab,  I  made  a  solution  too

Since  I  was  not  comfortable  using  so  much  water
I  ordered  200  ml  distilled  water  from  Amazon
Weighed  24  milligrams  baking  soda  in  a  laboratory
Added  24  milligrams  baking  soda  in  the  200  ml  distilled  water  to  get  a  4dkh  solution
Then  with  a  syringe  added  around  1-2  ml  of  the  4dkh  solution  in  the  drop  checker  and  put  7-8  drops  of  bromothymol  blue  to  get  a  blue  colour  solution

 Solution  made

 WC  Time

 After  running  CO2

Pictures  are  taken  from  my  Redmi  Note  3  so  it  may  not  look  that  blue  or  green  ¬†Smile

 This  also  works  fine

Oh  I  forgot  to  mention  that  a  solution  of  10  ml  each  of  the  2  solutions  would  just  cost  17-20%  of  a  branded  one.
So  its  good  to  make  and  share  it  at  such  nominal  price  which  benefits  all.   Thumb Up

How  long  will  this  last  in  the  tank,  how  frequently  do  we  need  to  change  the  contents?

Till  any  water  enters  the  drop  checker  you  can  use,  usually  i  maintain  my  tank  weekly  once  that  time  i  will  replace  the  solution.  Sometimes  if  i  go  for  official  trips  will  be  back  after  a  month  where  it  will  be  working  fine.

 Hi  Andrew,

once  placed  in  the  aquarium  is  this  solution  only  useful  for  one  time  use?  for  example:  Assume  the  indicator  changed  to  green  and  afterwards  say  if  there  is  a  spike  in  co2  after  2-3hr(in  a  single  day)  will  it   change  to  yellow?  and  then  if  the  co2  is  normal  will  it  change  to  green  and  so  on...?

Nope  it's  not  one  time  it  can  be  used  till  you  spill  or  mixed  with  water  mostly  i  change  my  solution  every  week  while  doing  water  change,  yes  it  shows  green  when  co2  is  there  if  not  blue  and  do  note  whatever  color  you  see  in  drop  checker  is  a  hour  before  condition  of  your  tank.
