I  have  5  mm  gravel  which  I  like  better  than  my  2  mm  and  1  mm  white  sand.

Diana  recommends  2-3  mm  sand  to  cap  the  soil.  She  says  larger  pebbles  will  cause  dirt  to  accumulate  and  the  mulm  will  rot  and  become  anaerobic.  Will  this  happen  with  a  5  mm  gravel?

Some  say  smaller  particles  is  bad.  It  will  lead  to  compaction  and  that  larger  gravels  offer  a  good  surface  for  plants  to  latch  on.  How  far  is  this  true?

Smaller  particles  seal  the  soil  layer  beneath  causing  it  to  become  anaerobic.  A  larger  gravel  on  the  other  hand  will  allow  some  flow.  Is  this  true?

Posting  few  replies  I  got  for  this  question  from  another  forum.  IAH  has  a  lot  of  knowledgeable  but  busy  people.  All  questions  being  answered  is  the  key  when  it  comes  to  bringing  traffic  to  a  website.
