Hi,  For  a  30"  x   18"  x  18"  tank  what  is  best  way  to  stick  the  glasses  to  the  bottom  piece  glass  from  the  below  methods.  I  will  be  having  5  different  pieces  (Front,  Back,  Left,  Right  and  Bottom  glasses)

 1.  Front,  back,  left  and  right  vertical  glasses  sticking  to  the  sides  of  the  bottom  glasses  or
 2.  Front,  back,  left  and  right  vertical  glasses  sticking  on  top  of  the  bottom  glasses
 3.  Is  there  any  other  methods  ?

Since  dimension  of  the  glass  will  vary  based  on  the  above  two  methods,  it  will  be  helpful  for  me  to  plan  based  on  the  suggestions.

 Thanks

Use  method  1  -  This  is  how  the  ADA  tanks  are  made.  It  will  look  really  good,  especially  of  you  use  good  silicone  and  a  minimal  amount  of  it.

Use  wacker  GP  or  GE  branded  silicone.  I  doubt  you  will  get  it  in  your  town.  Buy  it  in  Bangalore  itself.

You  can  also  get  the  edges  ground  at  45  degree  angles,  but  not  many  tanks  are  made  this  way.  I  am  not  sure  of  the  benefits  or  drawbacks  of  this  method

Getting  the  edges  grounded  is  next  to  impossible  in  India  I  assume.  I  wanted  to  get  that  done  for  my  DIY  tank,  but  couldn't  find  any  glass  shop  to  do  that.  Finally  I  took  matters  in  my  hand  and  learnt  to  use  the  angle  grinder.

Will  start  another  thread  once  I  have  time  and  as  I  move  ahead  with  the  project.

Tell  them  to  do  computerized  grinding,  then  you  will  get  the  45  degree  grinding  done.

AFAIK  the  front  and  bak  glasses  are  stuck  to  the  sides  of  the  bottom  glass  and  the  side  glasses  are  stuck  on  top  of  the  bottom  glass.  So  I  guess  it  should  be  a  combo  of  1  &  2.

Unfortunately  method  1  didn't  worked  out  for  me  due  to  incorrect  dimensions  given  by  me  to  glass  cutter,  its  a  shame,  realised  this  mistake  only  when  I  was  collecting  the  glass  and  doing  a  mock  up  assembly  in  the  shop,  the  glass  shop  guy  was  good  enough  to  workaround  and  gave  the  glass  that  would  suit  for  method  2  (all  glass  on  the  top  of  bottom  glass).

I  feel,  the  method  one  would  have  been  better  in  ease  of  assembly  of  glass  while  sticking  together,  and  aesthetically  also  that  would  have  been  very  good..
So  sad  that  it  ended  this  way..
