So i was searching for a filter for my planted tank (new setup in progress - dimensions 36 x 12x 1 approx 30 gallons. I was more inclined towards HOB's because don't have any additional space to keep the canister. Then i surfed to these filters which are a fusion of canister and HOBS (Hang on external canister filters). Conceptually, this seems to be brilliant because i can attach a spray bar to the outflow to manage the flow of the tank as opposed to water simply falling down from the HOB
As of now, i am seeking feedback if anyone has used these filters?

Too small for a 30 gallon and too expensive for a Sunsun. Either go in for HOB or a proper canister. Honestly, unless you're keeping it on the floor, you should be able to keep the canister under the aquarium.
Hope the following helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5FkSTYkEAE |

Ive never run a cannister, but I have had great experience running a HOB filter on a 30G cichlid tank, was well filtered and oxygenated.
However HOB does not do well with a high tech planted tank since it dissipates the injected CO2. I think for a low tech should be good as well. |

I am not sure how true this is, Our tanks are not Soda bottles to fizz out CO2 when disturbed. The surface area increases when there is surface agitation which gives more opportunity for CO2 to escape.
I use pressurized CO2 and I have a lot of surface agitation in my tank 24X7. I don't see any problems and plants pearl normally. The Co2 indicator is a mint green color. i am using two of them on the same tank at opposite ends and I do not see a difference.
IME I think that surface agitation caused by a HOB really does not create much of a difference.
How ever the water circulation in the tank caused by a HOB is not as Good as a Canister filter output.
This particulat HOB/Canister is not sufficient for a 30 gallon aquarium. |

Try using a TOP filter, it will have more volume than a HOB filter. This will also be a cheaper option.
A Sunsun 302 canister will cost the same as the HOB filters you have given link to. |

I know, but don't have space in the room to keep canister, hence, looking at the next best option. |
