 Hi  Everyone,
I  just  got  this  guy  from  my  LFS  on  3rd  April,  He  was  active  right  after  he  entered  the  (3.5  gallon)  tank  exploring  every  corner  of  it  and  no  visible  health  problems.  Breathes  air  on  the  surface,  swims  around  actively  and  isn't  shy  at  all.
The  problem  is  he  wont  eat  any  pellets.
 He  spits  it  right  out.
I  asked  the  shop  keeper  and  he  said  he  feeds  the  Bettas  pellets  too!
 Is  this  normal  behaviour?
I've  tried  feeding  in  the  morning  and  evening,  putting  only  2  to  4  pellets  and  then  leaving  it  for  half  an  hour  but  he  doesn't  eat  them  up.

Just  FYI  i  have  a  small  stone  filter  in  the  tank  (very  light  flow)  .  I've  tried  feeding  him  with  the  filter  on  and  with  it  off,  situation  is  the  same.
This  Photo  is  of  the  other  corner  of  the  tank  with  a  plastic  plant.

Im  not  an  expert  on  Bettas,  but  in  general  that  is  how  most  fishes  eat.  They  take  in  the  pellet,  some  of  it  is  ingested  and  the  rest  is  expelled  back.  However,  I  would  suggest  getting  flake  food,  smaller  fishes  eat  it  much  more  efficiently.

Is  he  still  active  in  your  setup  or  he  has  become  lethargic  which  could  indicate  other  issues.
Agree  with  @ashwin1224  on  trying  with  flake  food.  It  might  take  upto  a  week  time  for  them  to  get  into  the  routine.
If  that  also  does  not  work  out,  then  try  some  live  food  like  blood  worms.

 @sudhirr
 He  is  still  active.
This  morning  i  soaked  the  pellets  in  his  tank  water  (in  another  container)  and  then  gave  him  3  (JUST  3  micro  pellets)  and  he  didn't  eat  them  too...

FINALLY...  Yesterday  being  a  Sunday  I  attempted  something  out  of  the  box  and  cut  the  micro  pellet  into  2.

This  time  the  Betta  ate  IT!  3  pellets  (thats  all  i  gave  him  since  everyone  says  the  size  of  the  eye  is  the  amount  of  food  you  should  feed  a  Betta)

AND  i  also  observed  him  sleeping  maybe     Confused  as  he  was  resting  on  the  plant  for  sometime  during  the  day.

It  might  be  taking  time  to  settle.  Good  you  did  not  add  too  much  food  and  ruin  the  water  quality.  Add  a  few  dried  almond  leaves  to  your  tank  also  if  you  can  get  them.  They  are  good  for  bettas

Happy  to  hear  that  he  started  eating.  I  had  Betta  many  years  ago,  I  observed  that  they  love  to  eat  from  surface.  So  I  used  to  feed  him  dry  blood  worms  and  he  used  to  gulp  right  then.
Also  they  love  mosquitoes  -  whenever  you  can  catch  few.

 Best  Regards,
 Suman

Live  mosquitoes  are  best  for  your  betta.  You  can  buy  mosquito  larva  for  them  as  well.  Here  are  some  other  food  options  for  your  betta  -  https://expertaquarist.com/best-betta-fish-food/

Best  of  luck  and  happy  fishkeeping!
