Hi  All!

It  recieved  a  mild  midlife  upgrade  in  the  form  of  a  wooden  .

Hi,  Can  you  provide  some  insight  how  this  wooden  frame  was  done.  My  5  feet  also  is  having  same  ugly  corners  .  Also  i  am  unable  to  find  any  5  feet  compatable  lighting  as  of  now  tubes  are  placed   over  the  tank  which  is  awfully  bad  and  is  an  eyesore.

I  dont  know  a  lot  about  the  frame,  since  I  basically  just  told  a  carpenter  to  cover  the  edges  in  a  frame  and  he  did  the  rest.  All  I  know  is  he  made  a  the  individual  pieces  with  a  heavy  wood  and  just  stuck  them  on  the  glass  with  a  strong  adhesive.  Since  the  tank  is  10mm  with  12mm  braces  on  all  sides,  it  had  no  problems  holding  all  the  extra  weight.

For  the  lights  I  just  used  a  5.5ftx  8inch  piece  of  plywood.  Screwed  6  holders  on  it  and  used  6x20W  6500k  Philips  Stellar  LED  bulbs  on  them.  The  plywood  is  just  kept  on  the  top  of  the  tank  without  any  stand  or  anything.  The  bulbs  all  hide  behind  the  front  panel  of  the  frame  and  it  decreases  the  unnatural  height  of  the  tank  as  well.  I  have  a  VERY  heavy  curved  lid  for  the  tank  as  well  which  I'll  put  once  the  tank  is  settled  enough.

If  there's  anything  specific  you  wanna  know  feel  free  to  ask.

No,  this  is  just  regular  aquarium  sand.  Often  LFS  call  it  "Sugar"  sand.

Yes,  it  yielded  a  lot  of  algae  for  me.  And  uncontrollable  random  ammonia  spikes.  Maybe  I  used  the  wrong  sand.

I  wanted  to  go  for  an  inert  substrate  with  this  tank,  however,  it  seems  even  this  substrate  is  high  in  silicates.

For  a  low  tech  low  light  Ada  would  be  great.  It  is  simply  the  best  planted  tank  substrate  out  there.  Just  make   sure  you  have  a  lot  of  low  light  plants  to  absorb  the  nutrients.

Need  help..….Is  placing  a  6  feet  tank  on  a  5  feet  table  Ok  ?  Alternatively,  can  i  use  a  plank/sheet  of  8  mm  ply  on  top  of  the  5  ft  table  and  place  the  6  ft  tank  over  it....

 tank  size  -  72*24*18(height)  ...

 table  size  60*18

Can  i  place  a  ply  sheet  of  72*24  on  the  table  and  then  seat  the  tank  on  it

 Please  advice

Definitely  no.  It  might  not  crack  right  away,  but  can  anytime.  You're  talking  immense  volume  and  weight  man.  Not  worth  the  risk.

Hi  all,  small  update.  Big  shipment  of  plants  coming  next  week.  Currently  the  Amazons  are  growing  ,  slowly  as  expected,  vals  are  doing  good.  They're  throwing  new  runners  and  gaining  some  height  as  well.  Brown  algae  bloom  has  died  down  by  itself  however  it's  left  the  substrate  an  ugly  shade  of  brown.  I'm  gonna  see  what  i  can  do  about  it  at  the  time  of  planting.

Here's  a  picture  of  the  good  looking  val  runners.

I  currently  have  a  3  ft  tank  with  a  1ft  Silver  arowana  &  8  chiclids.  Fluval  306  is  used  as  filter.  As  the  Arowana  is  growing  fast  i  got  a  new  6ft  tank  (&  a  new  stand  as  suggested  in  this  thread  by  Ashwin)

I  clean  the  filter  once  in  3/4  weeks  and  also  change  10-20%  of  water  once  in  2  weeks.

Kept  as  clear  bottom(no  decorations/landscaping),  so  that  i  can  see  any  dirt  and  suck  it  out  often

With  the  same  no  of  fish,  will  the  current  306  filter  be  enough  ?

If  not,  can  i  add  another  Fluval  306/Ehiem  350  OR  shud  i  upgrade  to  new  filter  with  higher  capacity  ?

Also  is  it  worth  buying  a  2  yrs  old,  used  Fluval/Ehiem  filter  at  half  the  price  ?
