 Hi,

Has  anyone  have  used  COB  lights  successfully  for  Planted  tanks?

I  am  planning  to  use  8  numbers  of  6w  COB  LED  lights  for  a  2  X  1  X  1  High  tech  planted  aquarium.  Anyone  have  comments  or  suggestions  for  this?

Those  lights  are  highly  inefficient.  6W  lights  are  churning  out  500lumens,  which  is  close  to  83lumen/Watt.   While  8  of  those  will  make  around  4000lumens,  which  is  a  decent  enough  light  output,  there  are  plenty  of  LEDs  out  there  with  the  same  output  but  lesser  consumption.  Even  the  cheap  LEDs  are  running  110lumen/Watt  these  days.  However,  you  will  have  to  go  the  DIY  route  with  them.

A  lot  also  depends  upon  what  plants  you  plan  on  growing,  CO2  and  dosing  regime.

Whichever  led  you  are  going  for  make  sure  they  cool  white  and  not  warm  white.  Warm  white  tends  to  have  more  of  a  yellow  tinge  to  it.

Watching  this  thread.  I'm  also  looking  for  lighting  solutions.

 Below  is  Tank  dimension  -
 Length  -  85cm
 height   -  50cm
Width   -  15  cm  (Narrow  to  fit  into  a  showcase)

@ashwin1224  Curious  to  know  the  LEDs  that  run  110lumen/watt,  Please  do  share  if  you  come  across  any  links.

I  couldnt  find  any  reliable  sources  with  110lumen/watt  LED  selling  locally(aliexpress  has  a  lot  of  them),  but  do  check  out  my  thread  :Simple  high  quality  LED  light  for  a  planted  tank,  you  might  find  it  interesting.

I  have  been  using  200W  of  the  same  lighting  on  my  125G,  20inch  deep  tank  and  I  have  absolutely  no  complaints  with  the  light.  It  is  a  low  tech  no  CO2  tank,  and  the  plants  are  doing  really  good,  Saggittaria  Subulata  has  started  to  carpet  and  I  have  an  overflow  of  valisneria  spiralis.

I  would  suggest  you  to  use  around  2800  Lumens  of  lighting,  which  you  can  achieve  with  this:  2x  14W  LED
