I am a beginner in fishkeeping. At present, I have dwarf amazon swords in my tank. I have ordered hygrophila compact, hygrophila difformis, cryptocoryne spiralis and cryptocoryne wendtii online. I have seen over the internet that fertilizer is necessary and I am experiencing it because the amazon sword leaves are becoming brown and yellow very quickly. I have sand as a substrate. Is there any general all-in-one type fertiliser that I can buy? And which would be better, root tabs or liquid fertilizer? I am so confused.
But I prefer and want to have anubias and java fern as they are very easy to care for any beginner.
I am a beginner as well, but Amazon swords are heavy root feeders and take nutrients from the substrate. So the substrate should be nutrient rich and not inert.
You have mentioned that you have used sand as a substrate and this may be an inert substrate.
As far as I know there is no good all in one fertiliser, some need root tabs, some need additives in the water column. Macros micros on alternate days or weekly once.
Some need iron extra may be. Each plant type has specific needs. Tropica is a good place for references.
