 Hi  all,

Am  just  restarting  the  hobby  and  the  aquarium  has  been  unused  for  about  3  years.
Can  I  just  fill  the  tank  with  water.  Would  the  glue  holding  the  glass  be  deteriorated  now?  Any  precautions  that  you  could  suggest.

You  can  use  the  old  tank  as  long  as  it  was  not  sitting  outside  in  the  sun.  the  only  concern  is  some  times  the  Silicone  will  come  offor  become  brittle  if  exposed  to  long  term  sunlight.  Fill  the  tank  25%  at  a  time  and  see  if  its  water  tight.  Leave  it  for  a  couple  of  days.  Next  fill  it  to  50  %.  leave  it  for  a  few  days.  75%  and  100%  with  a  couple  of  days  gap.  This  is  only  to  test  that  the  silicone  is  still  ok,  and  there  are  no  leaks.  My  tank  sprung  a  leak  after  12  years.  So  from  personal  experience  i  can  say  that  if  the  tank  is  not  older  than  10  years  give  it  a  try.
