Am  a  beginner  now  to  this  hobby  and  seek  your  advice

I  have  a  5  gallon  tank  and  have  cycled  it.  After  a  week  I  put   the  following  fishes

 1  Plant
 9  Cardinal  Tetras
 1  Betta  Fish
 2  Blue  Electric  Ram
1  existing  platy  that  I  had  in  a  bowl

Admit  that  I  have  not  done  enough  research  and  took  what  the  store  guy  sold  me.  will  be  careful  in  spacing  out  the  fishes  in  future

A  week  later,  all  the  Cardinal  Tetras  Died  within  24  hrs  and  then  the  Betta  Died  the  next  day.   The  platy  developed  white  spots  and  it  also  died  2  days  later.

I  can't  figure  out  why  it  happened.  The  Blue  Electric  Ram's  survived  and  have  a  darker  head  and  black  spot  on  the  tail  fin  and  below  the  gills.

The  Tank  parameters  are  fine  and  just  a  bit  high  on  the  pH  side.  I  asked  the  shore  guy  and  he  gave  me  bactonil  to  try  for  a  week.  Am  Not  Sure  how  to  upload  pics,  can  you  please  guide  me  of  offer  advice  on  how  this  could  have  been  avoided

I  am  going  to  get  only  one  Betta  in  the  future  and  just  keep  the  Ram's  (  if  they  Survive)   and  have  3  Ottos  and  a  Nerite  snail  in  a  quarantine  tank  which  I  will  move  to  this  one  if  all  goes  well

Thank  you  in  advance  and  keep  it  going.  Appreciate  any  assistance  on  this

How  did  you  measure  the  tank  parameters?
What  process  did  you  follow  for  cycling  the  tank?
There  seems  to  be  too  many  fish  for  such  a  small  tank.

Its  quite  likely  the  otto"s  will  be  killed  by  the  rams  in  such  a  small  tank.  why  do  you  need  otto's  in  the  tank.  Does  it  have  plants  and  algae?

The  fish  you  have  are  not  compatible  with  each  other.

Give  more  details  about  you  tank...  the  dimensions,  the  type  of  filter  you  have  and  if  you  are  using  any  lights  or  hard  scape.

Thank  you  very  much  for  your  response.  I  used  API  Fresh  Water  Kit

Am  unable  to  attach  the  Pic  here.  However,  the  Ammonia  is  not  there,  Nitrates  are  mot  there  and  nitrites  are  10  PPM  (  Tested  Yesterday)  did  not  have  the  kit  last  week  when  the  fish  died.  The  PH  is  on  the  Higher  side  like  8.2.  Open  to  ideas  on  reducing  this.  also  can  I  use  Aquarium  Salt

it  is  a  5  Gallon  tank  with  Sand  and  a  Plant  in  the  basket.  There  are  Lava  Rocks

 There  is  LED  light

The  Ram  i  kept  in  a  2.5  gallon  tank  with  the  Ottos  for  a  night  and  they   were  ok.  I  did  not  know  about  their  compatibility  and  just  got  them  as  what  the  Shopkeeper  gave  me

The  Filter  is  hangon  filter  of  SunSun  with  400LPH  capacity  and  have  Media  in  the  filter.   Used  Greenoculum  every  time  I  change  water

The  Ottos  are  still  in  the  quarantine  tank  as  I  got  them  only  a  week  ago.  I  intend  to  only  add  a  Betta  and  Floating  Plants.  Have  a  nerite  snail  as  well

I  like  Ottos  and  hence  bought  them.  Dont  want  any  fish  to  die  and  will  do  the  best  to  keep  up  with  the  Maintenace

The  fish  you  have  usually  dont  bother  each  other  in  a  large  tank...  thing  50  Gallons  or  more.  But  in  a  small  tank  it  gets  crowded.  The  Rams  will  harass  the  other  fish.  Guppies  or  tetras  8-10  are  suitable  for  this  tank.  Adding  any  more  fish  is  not  advisable.  Since  you  already  have  Rams,  just  keep  the  two  rams  for  now.  Don't  add  any  more  fish.
