 Hi,

 I  am  Amit  from  Jamshedpur.

A  newbie  in  the  aquarium  hobby  area.  I  purchased  a  new  128liter  (30  gallon)  tank  locally  around  a  month  ago.  Model  is  RS-800EL.

I  also  purchased  a  test-kit  which  can  measure  pH,  Ammonia,  Nitrite  &  Nitrate  levels  by  a  brand  called  LifeSonic.  Link  <https>

Initially  I  was  worried  that  due  to  some  reason  the  pH  of  my  tank  is  too  high,  however  after  finding  it  consistently  high  too  many  times,  I  checked  the  water  straight  out  of  the  tap  and  found  that  its  high  there  itself.

Its  greater  than  9  (maybe  even  10,  difficult  to  pin  point  exactly  as  the  results  are  based  on  color  change).

Is  this  something  I  need  to  worry  about?

Do  I  need  to  adjust  the  pH  in  the  tank  or  is  this  something  the  fishes  would  be  /  would  get  adjusted  to?

Depends  on  the  type  of  fish  you  keep.  With  water  out  of  the  tap  that  high,  I  would  suggest  using  RO  water  or  packaged  drinking  water.
You  can  get  desired  TDS  by  mixing  back  with  tap  water  or  using  a  remineraliser  to  add  GH  and  KH  (if  needed).

Thank  you  sudhirr  for  the  reply.

I  have  1  common  goldfish  (about  1.5  inch),  1  shubunkin  (about  1.5  inch)  and  1  pleco  (about  2  inches)  in  the  tank.

Also  have  1  oranda  red-cap  (about  1.5  inch)  in  quarantine  tank  which  would  be  moved  to  my  main  tank  in  few  weeks,  as  it's  new  right  now.

I  understand  from  your  response  that  such  pH  is  not  recommended  for  the  fish.

RO  would  seem  a  sizeable  investment  for  now,  can  I  use  pH  Down  to  adjust  as  a  short-term  measure?

Definitely  considering  RO  in  near  future.

Goldies  are  adaptable.  I  wouldn’t  use  any  ph  up  down  products  since  they  are  inconsistent  and  will  do  more  harm  than  good.  Wouldn’t  tamper  with  the  water  params.  You  don’t  need  to  be  worried  unless  there  is  a  problem

With  goldies  good  filtration  and  frequent  water  changes  to  keep  the  water  quality  high  will  help.
