 Hello  Everyone,

Myself  Jayakumar.  Working  in  a  s/w  company  on  Airport  Road,  Bangalore.

Got  hooked  to   the  fishing  line  about  2  yrs  back.  Started  with  a  small  tank  (1X.5X.5ft)  of  mollies.  Saw  them  all  go  to  heaven.  Realized  itz  not  such  an  easy  task  as  put  some  fish  in  a  tank  and  they  live  happily  ever  after.  Started  reading  on  the  net.  Upgraded  to  a  bigger  tank  (3X1X1ft).  This  time  tried  a  planted  tank.  Many  plants  came  and  went  and  along  with  that  some  fish  too.  Luckly  that  tank  has  settled  down  a  lot.  My  fish  have  been  around  with  me  for  a  year  now  and  I'm  too  happy  that  they  are  alive.   Cheering

2  months  back  decided  my  fish  need  a  bigger  tank.  Got  a  (5X1.5X1.5ft)  tank  with  plants.  Plants  have  started  shedding  their  leaves.  Looking  out  what  could  be  the  reason.  Planning  on  getting  a  CO2  setup.

Got  to  know  about  this  site  a  week  back.  Found  this  section  yesterday.  One  lesson  I  learnt  -  don't  blindly  believe  the  LFS  guys.   Crying or Very sad

Good  to  know  that  you  guys  exist   Thumb Up

 HI!
 I
am  Joy  from  Lucknow,  with  a  specialisation  in  International  business  devlopment  i.e.  export/import  currently  working  as  an  Asstt.  Manager  purchase  with  the  housing  department  of  Sahara  India  Commercial  corp.  Ltd.  I  have  been  into  fish  keeping  for  the  past  15  years  or  so  but  never  had  done  it  so  technically  in  the  past  as  I  was  not  aware  of  the  technical  requirements  for  persuing  this  hobby,  I  started  with  a  small  tank  of  2'  x  1.5'  x  1.5'  Â 15  years  ago  and  maintained  a  community  tank,  desparate  enough  to  see  the  plants  and  fishes  Â thriving  Â but  depressed  when  all  efforts  to  cultivate  the  hobby  ended  in  failure  despite  following  all  the  instruction  given  by  the  local  LFS,  I  gave  up  the  hobby  after  2  years  and  then  again  continued  with  a  bigger  tank  after  some  time,  dropped  it  again  as  did  not  get  much  succuess  with  plants  and  fishes,  thanks  to  IAH  which  I  accidently  discovered  before  6  months  which  has  been  helping  me  to  cultivate  my  hobby,  presently,  I  have  a  tank  sized  4'  x  1.5'  x  2'  with  fresh  water  plants  and  different  types  of  tetras,  and  mollies.  Besides  keeping  fish  I  like  gardining,  reading,  travelling,  cooking  and  watching  moovies,as  I  have  been  in  International  business  development  I  had  an  opportunity  to  travel  to  different  countries,  where  in  I  had  seen  aquariums  of  different  types  and  always  wondered  how  do  they  maintain  the  aquarium  with  fishes  and  plants  surviving  and  full  of  health,  I  am  really  thankfull  to  IAH.  for  helping  me  to  persue  my  hobby.....

 Regards

 Hi,

I  am  Shyamsundar  (or  Shyam,  or  Somari   Smile  ).

I  work  in  an  IT  firm  in  Bangalore,  and  have  been  Bangalored  for  the  last  7  years.

Started  getting  interested  in  Aquariums  about  10  months  back,  when  my  sister  in  law  suggested  that  I  read  up  on  them  to  start  with  as  it  involved  cycling  etc.  Had  no  idea  what  I  was  getting  into  then  and  as  a  result  started  reading  up  about  the  same  on  the  net,  found  IAH  after  a  month  or  so  and  have  been  greedily  reading  up  all  posts  (mostly  all)  in  an  effort  to  understand  what  I  wanted.

Met  Madhan  before  Aquatika  '06  and  discussed  my  interest  in  planted  tank(s,  for  later).  He  got  me  going  with  a  few  ideas  and  here  is  where  my  setup  is  at  present,

 Low  tech  planted  aquarium
 3  Ft.  x  1.5  Ft.  x  1.5  Ft.
 Planted  on  9th  Sep.  '06
No  fish  yet  but  plan  on  getting  swordtails  to  start  with,  then  see  what  I  want  to  do.  (anybody  have  some  to  give  away     Thumb Up  ,  I  mean  seriously  PM  me  dudes  and  dudettes)

Just  an  observation,  there  is  a  large  gap  in  reading  and  attempting  to  do  things  yourself.  Don't  fool  yourself  that  just  because  you  have  read  up  stuff  doing  them  would  be  easier,  knowledge  and  experience  seem  to  really  be  two  different  things.  Just  my  experience  not  a  reflection  on  others   Smile

 Shyam.

Howdy!  I  am  Pradeep  Chakravarthy  from  Madras  (nope,  not  a  Bengali!)  Was  always  keen  on  fish  but  stopped  for  awhile  when  i  studied  abroad.  I  write  regularly  on  heritage  for  newspapers  and  while  speaking  about  hobbies  to   Muthu  a  colleague  I  thought  of  doing  an  articles,  met  the  IAH  folks  in  Chennai,  did  a  frontpage  on  them  and  that  got  me  rehooked!!

I  have  4  ponds  and  a  5ft  tank  All  of  them  are  dedicated  to  my  favourite  fish  -  cyprinids(mostly  barbs)  and  that  too  native  indian.  The  tank  will  shortly  become  a  Tambraparani  River  biotope  since  my  village  is  on  its  banks  and  i  spent  most  holidays  there.

Other  hobbies  include  antique  collecting  [no  money  now  :-(],gardening,  carnatic  music  and  scottish  country  dancing.  Both  my  wife  and  dad  love  the  fish  (especially  the  ones  in  the  pond  -  they  think  keeping  tanks  is  "unnatural")  but  show  their  affection  by  overfeeding  the  fish!

I  work  as  a  softskills  trainer  and  need  to  travel  a  lot  in  a  hectic  job  but  nothing  soothes  beter  than  some  music  and  a  tank  in  front!

 Hi  Everyone
First  of  all  congrats  to  Sandeep,  Madan,  Beta  and  other  guys  whom  I  haven't  included  who  are  responsible  for  setting  up  this  forum..I  was  frantically  searching  for  some  aquarium  info  on  the  net  and  chanced  upon  this  site  and  since  then...

I'm  Craig  from  Mumbai  and  decided  to  set  up  an  aquarium  at  home  in  memory  of  my  late  uncle  who  passed  away  last  year  (RIP)  .  To  me  he  was  one  of  the  best  aquarists  and  was  in  this  business  for  25  years.  The  little  knowledge  that  I've  acquired  is  from  the  time  I've  spent  in  and  around  his  aquarium.

 I  currently  have  a  2  1/2   X   1  1/2  X  1  1/2  tank  (made  by  him)  in  my  house  with  08  6inches  Discus  brought  from  our  very  own  Mitul  (   Thumbs Up     )  a  year  ago.

Of  late  the  planted  tank  bug  has  gotten  into  me  (cant  sleep  till  its  done  Very Happy   )  Will  be  upgrading  to  a  bigger  tank  with  external  filters,  metal  halides  and  all

Well.  I  dont  have  the  expertise  of  my  uncle  anymore  but  this  site  and  members  do  provide  me  much  solace  while  looking  for  aquarium  advice..

So  CHEERS!  to  all  and  happy  readin  (to  all  readin  this  post)  and  happy  posting  (to  all  who'll  reply  to  it...lol)

 P.S  craio=craiggy.

 HI,

Clownygirl  from  Mumbai.  Was  introduced  to  the  hobby  by  my  husband  who  would  take  me  to  aquariums  and  fishy  shops  on  dates   Very Happy

I  have  a  79  gallon  4  feet  tank  with  21  clown  loaches  -  the  biggest  two  are  over  7  inches  and  some  other  fish  including  a  juvenile  jack  dempsey.

I  also  have  a  56  gallon  4  feet  tank  with  salvinis,  jewels,  a  convict  and  2  striped  raphael  catfish.

I  have  been  into  the  hobby  2  years,  but  hubby  has  been  an  avid  aquarist  for  over  15  years.  He  got  into  the  hobby  during  his  school  days.

i  have  been  a  regular  member  of  fishy  sites  such  as  Arofanatics,  Aquatic  quotient,  petfriend,  etc.  i  was  eagerly  waiting  to  come  across  a  site  where  all  of  us  from  India  can  discuss  our  aquaium  hobbies  in  detail.  only  2  days  back  i  came  to  know  of  this  community.  now  feels  geat  to  be  a  part  of  it.  lets  keep  up  the  good  work.
