 Hi

Here  is  my  50inch  long  tank  after  a  month.  I  am  very  proud  of  this  :-)

The  tank  has  a  rich  laterite  substrate  and  80W  lighting.  No  CO2  etc.,  I  also  have  a  few  fans  to  keep  the  temp  as  low  as  possible  given  the  Madras  heat.

Fish  -  Lepidocephalus  Thermalis  that  are  burrowing  all  the  time  :-),  Puntius  Manipurensis  that  are  always  hiding,  Puntius  Vittatus  thats  alwas  nibbling  the  Najas,  SAE  thats  busy  eating  the  food  and  not  the  algae,  Devario  Devario  and  Devario  Acucephalitus  that  shoal  around.  Got  a  few  wild  caught  shrimps  as  well

Plants  -  Valls,  Aponogenetons  and  Saggitaria  and  a  few  bits  of  Najas

PLEASE  tell  me  what  you  think!  click  on  the  pic  for  a  better  view

simple  and  elegant.  but  i  see  the  focus  is  getting  shifted  to  the  rock  placements  than  on  the  plants  -  must  say  the  rock  placements  are  good.

Terrible  !!  You  should  give  off  that  unsightly  tank  before  more  people  see  it.
In  fact,  I  ll  do  you  a  favour  and  take  it  off  your  hands.
Just  let  me  know  when  and  where  I  can  pick  it  up.  Very Happy

p.s.  PC,  can  you  get  some  close  ups  of  the  fish  too?

It's  simply  elegant!   The  plants  look  healthy  Since  you  have  a  few  plants  may  be  you  should  add  a  few  fish  which  are  not  shy  and  colourful,  like  rainbows.  also  if  you  can  cover  a  fer  racks  with  some  moss  or  ferns  i  feel  the  visual  impact  will  be  better.
By  the  way  even  angles  will  do  well  in  this  setup.  Looking  forward  to  seeing  what  you'll  do  next  with  it!

    Regards
       Harshal

 Regards  Thumb Up

A  billion  thanks  for  these  kind  words!  I  feel  proud  of  this  since,  the  plants  are  growing  very  well  and  yet  its  very  low  maintenence.  I  copied  2  rules  from  mother  nature  -

1.Go  low  on  variety  and  high  on  quantity  for  max  impact
2.Adapt  the  plants  to  the  water  rather  than  the  other  way  (I  was  so  sad  when  i  heard  hairgrass  cant  grow  in  the  warm,  hard  waters  of  Madras)

Additional  rule  -  "If  you  cant  spend  lots  of  time  and  money(on  CO2/doses  etal),  keep  your  options  limited"  :-)

Sandeep  -  you  have  a  good  point  and  infact  i  dont  really  want  the  sagitaria  in  the  foreground  but  the  tambraparani  or  for  that  mater  any  Tamil  Nadu  river  flowing  in  the  plains  dont  have  ANY  foreground  plants  so  i  had  to  put  them  in  to  break  the  attention  on  rockwork.  I  am  getting  a  few  more  plants  from  Tambraparni  tomorrow,  i  hope  some  of  them  are  foeground  plants:-).  Do  you  think  removing  a  few  rocks  will  help?

Harshal  -  I  will  leave  you  folks  to  enjoy  SAmerican  beuties,  its  be  indian  buy  indian  for  me:-)

Psimhan  -  i  am  no  expert  with  my  basic  digital  but  search  Petfrd.com  for  these  fish  and  you  will  see  some  great  pics.  The  Devario  Acu..  isnt  a  good  idea  though  since  it  seems  to  need  cooler  water.  Now  that  i  have  a  supplier  from  Tambraparni  river,  most  of  the  puntius  and  devarioo's  will  go  into  the  pond  as  replacement  for  the  new  fish.   As  always  i  wil  go  for  lots  of  quantity  of  small  fish(pref.barbs)  that  dont  go  beyond  3  inches.

Joy  -  apart  from  Valls,  Aponogeneton(2  types),Najas  Indica(completley  nibbled  to  the  stem),  saggitaria

Many  thanks  once  more  folks,  now  if  i  get  my  external  filter  in  place  i  dont  have  to  feel  bad  for  my  loaches  mucking  up  the  gravel!!
