 I  am  planning  to  keep/breed  fish  in  something  other  than  an  aquarium  or  a  cement  tank...  any  ideas  as  to  what  kind  of  tank  will  be  appropriate?  My  options  are

 1.  Earthen  pots  -  though  they  are  cheap  the  are  extremely  fragile  and  I  really  dont  know  where  to  buy  them  from  in  Bangalore.   One  alternative  can  be  the  Gamla  made  of  earthen  pot  which  can  be  bought  from  http://www.dailydump.org/product_gamla.htm.

 2.  Fiberglass  reinforced  plastic  tanks  (FRP)  -  But  these  are  normally  very  huge  and  very  few  companies  manufacture  these  in  India.

 3.  Plastic  crates  available  in  Shivajinagar  -  I  am  not  sure  whether  they  are  safe  for  fishes  or  not.

 Can  someone  guide  me  please.

 Arnabroy,
 If  your  priority  is  to  spawn  the  fish  in  the  above  said  containers  I  guess  you  will  face  a  lot  of  problems  I  guess  a  glass  tank  will  be  by  far  the  best  option  for  the  spawning  tank.  Now,  if  you  are  looking  for  rearing  tanks  I  guess  the  'gamla'  is  again  a  very  small  container  for  them  and  as  you  said  it  also  fragile.  so  you  could  go  in  for  either  conventionally  available  plastic  or  frp  tanks.  Yes  they  are  available  here  in  India  and  as  far  as  the  FRP  tanks  go  they  can  be  custom  made  to  suit  your  requirements  -  ask  around  ....  Madan,  Trevor,  rufus  etc.  can  be  extremely  helpful  in  guiding  you.

 You'll  find  these  tanks  in  SJP  road.  Shops  to  the  left  of  the  flyover  stock  them.  Expensive  but  durable.  They  are  mainly  used  for  water  storage  in  low  height  lofts.

 They  are  used  for  drinking  water  storage.

 FRP  =  Fiber  Reinforced  Plastic

 Thanks  for  the  clarification  Madan  &  Nauzer.....

 I  am  actually  planning  to  buy  Nilkamal  Industrial  grade  containers  for  outdoor  fish  keeping...  so  just  want  to  confirm  if  this  is  same  as  the  FRP.

 Absolutely  no  idea  about  individual  brands.  Check  with  the  maker.

 Also,  Plastic/Fiber  containers  kept  outdoors  could  heatup  easily  in  summers  like  these  (unlike  cement  tanks  or  earthen  pots),  resulting  in  fish/plant  casualties.
