There  is  an  article  right  on  the  homepage  about  breeding  bettas  by  Hyath.

Incase  you  are  not  planning  to  take  out  the  female  out  of  the  tank  after  she  lays  eggs,Make  sure  there  are  good  hiding  places  for  the  female.

PS  :I  have  never  bred  betta  though.[Smile

 Senguptha,
Look  at  how  to  culture  infusoria  or   Brine  shrimp  or  Micro  worms,  You  can  feed  the  babies  with  any  of  these.

Currently  since  you  do  nto  have  any  of  these,  C  if  you  can  source  if  from  any  of  fellow  hobbiests  if  not  so,  Get  ready  for  the  next  batch.

Did  you  read  the  article  that  Rohan  pointed  out  to  you?

what  you  see  sticking  out  of  the  female  is  the  eggtube.

Do  some  reading  on  breeding  bettas.  It  is  not  easy  to  keep  the  fry  alive  even  if  they  do  breed.

A  bucket  is  not  really  going  to  work  for  you  in  terms  of  getting  the  fry  alive.  You  cannot  see  the  status  of  the  nest  or  the  eggs  or  the  female  betta.

Watch  the  female,  males  can  and  will  kill  the  female  after  laying  or  sometimes  even  before  if  she  is  not  receptive.

Betta  fry  are  extremely  tiny  and  you  will  not  find  any  food  for  them  in  the  stores.

You  can  try  boiled  egg  yolk(tiny  pinch),  3  days  after  the  eggs  hatch.  If  you  have  plants,  the  infusoria  in  them  will  feed  most  of  the  fry  in  the  initial  days.

Be  warned,  egg  yolk  can  pollute  the  water  and  kill  your  fry  within  a  day.

The  other  foods  you  could  try  are  microwoms,  infusoria,  newly  hatched  brine  shrimp  all  of  which  require  prior  preparation.

Remember,  the  male  and  female  betta  should  not  be  kept  together  in  the  same  tank  as  she  will  be  beaten  up  most  of  the  time.  However,  in  a  heavily  planted  setup,  she  may  find  enough  places  to  hide.

 Regards,
 Venkat

am  a  new  member  here.  but  i  have  bred  bettas  before  and  will  gladly  give  my  suggestions.  but  i  must  tell  in  advance  that  i  have  been  having  aquariums  since  i  was  a  kid  and  so  most  of  it  goes  by  intuition  and  previous  experience  and  i  really  dont  have  much  idea  on  the  professional  way  of  maintaining  things.
For  most  of  such  breeding,  i  have  a  seperate  cement  tank  which  would  hold  about  3  large  buckets  of  water,  that  should  be  about  30litres  i  suppose.  But  i  have  bred  them  in  much  smaller  tanks  too.  What  you  need  is  basically  a  really  calm  and  clean  water  with  floating  plants  to  hold  things  in  place  and  no  possible  disturbance  to  the  water  surface.  You  just  release  the  pair  that  are  ready  to  breed.  Once  settled  they  will  role  up  4  or  5  times  with  the  female  releasing  the  eggs.  Keep  watch,  cos  the  female  tends  to  eat  the  eggs  while  the  male  is  busy  collecting  them  for  the  nest.  Once  this  is  over,  you  remove  the  female  for  her  saftey  to  where  she  can  relax  and  regain  her  strength.  The  male  will  take  care  of  the  maintaining.  The  suggested  article  by  Hyath  covers  everything  really  well,  but  in  my  case  i  had  always  observed  a  2  day  window  for  the  babies  to  emerge.  As  for  feeding  the  babies,  I  didnt  breed  them  as  a  profession,  so  let  nature  take  its  course  in  the  tank  w  all  the  rich  plants  and  the  little  creatures  the  plants  carried.  If  you  are  breeding  to  sell,  then  this  is  def  not  a  good  idea.  I  recently  saw  a  DIY  liquid  food  for  fish  fry  link  in  youtube.  may  be  you  can  check  that  out  too,  if  it  is  applicable  for  bettas.

Once  you  are  successful  with  the  bettas  and  you  want  to  try  breeding  other  fish  too,  try  gourami,  the  breeding  procedure  is  the  exact  same  as  betta  to  the  last  detail  except  for  the  fish  being  bred.

Its  a  small  transparent  bucket  tht  they  wr  kept  in...I  just  saw  some  white  eggs  floating  on  the  surface  of  the  water...the  female  is  very  weak  and  seemed  like  loosing  her  conscousness..  the  male  was  not  leaving  it  alone  but  was  constantly  coupling  with  the  female..so  I  have  removed  the  female  from  the  tub  fearing  tht  she  will  die  out  of  exhaustion...the  male  is  tending  to  the  eggs,  may  be  a  little  unhappy  tht  I  ruined  its  plan...

PS  -  I  read  tht  thread  before  posting  here  (tht  rohan  was  pointing  to)  but  found  tht  some  of  the  points  were  not  covered.  I  mean,  it  is  for  breeders  and  it  spks  of  a  situation  where  the  fishes  wr  kept  in  a  seperate  tank  and  not  a  community  one....so,  not  knowing  what  to  do  if  the  fishes  start  breeding  in  a  community  tank,  I  thought  to  seek  the  forums  advice.

If  you  have  any  eggs  in  a  community  tank,  the  other  fish  will  usually  eat  them  up  in  no  time.  Breeding  and  growing  out  pretty  much  anything  requires  a  separate  tank.

The  best  thing  you  can  go  is  slowly  transfer  the  eggs  to  another  tank  or  bucket.

Sometimes  when  the  male  hugs  the  female  the  female  (and  the  male)  goes  into  a  trance.  Were  you  sure  that  the  female  was  becoming  exhausted?

Exhaustion  does  occur  and  can  result  in  a  very  worn  out  female.

Maybe  Rahul  would  like  to  shed  some  light  here?

As  far  as  I  know  .....  you  have  a  nano  tank....  so  transfer  the  bettea  couple  there  instead  of  bucket.  And  do  exactly  what  hyath  said  in  his  topic.  I  think  they  will  be  fine.

The  couple  died.  The  male  was  the  first  to  go,  then  the  female.  Sad

I  understood  tht  it  will  take  up  lots  of  preparation  to  breed  bettas.  Not  tht  I  want  to  do  this  very  eagerly.  It's  just  tht  they  had  readily  breeded  so  I  tried  to  honour  their  effort.  But  it's  over  now.  I  will  get  the  next  betta  only  when  I  am  ready  to  get  them  seperate  setup.

Thanks  forum,  for  all  the  help.  It's  really  appreciated.

Sorry  to  hear  about  your  loss  Sad
Bettas  being  very  aggressive  breeders,  you  need  to  take  utmost  care,  you  can  only  learn  and  get  better  Smile

The  pre-copulation  procedure  of  Bettas  is  quite  violent,  often  with  (both)  fish  left  with  tattered  fins,  which  need  clean  water  and  care  to  nurse  them  back  to  health.

Breeding  is  always  fun  and  fascinating,  all  the  best  with  your  future  attempts  Thumb Up

 Cheers,
