Pity  the  normal  strain  is  not  common  anymore.
These  Blue  Dempseys  used  to  fetch  a  huge  price  when  they  came  in  first..  Since  they  are  being  bred  in  Taiwan  their  prices  have  come  down  a  lot.

 Hi,

Saw  these  guys  at  Matsyavatar.  The  juviniles  still  cost  a  bomb.  A  little  below  4  digits.

 Regards,
 Surya

I  read  that  only  Blue  Dempseys  look  eally  Blue,  and  the  Jack  Dempseys  not  so  blue,  though  beautiful.  I  guess  the  Blue  is  to  Jack,  like  what  Zaire  Blue  is  to  Burundi,  in  Fronts!

 Have  I  got  it  right?

And  one  more  question.  Is  the  Electric  Blue  naturally  ocurring  too,  or  only  the  Jack  Dempsey  is  naturally  ocurring,  and  selectively  bred  to  get  the  electric  blues.   Some  light  on  this  would  be  great!

Most  larger  cichlids,  cant  be  kept  and  Dempsey  is  no  exception.   But  minnows  like  Apistos  &  Rams  and  not  to  mention  discus  &  angels  could  be  added.   Once  I  had  some  N.brichardis  in  my  planted  tank.

Thirtha,  JD's  are  as  aggressive  as  Oscar's,  Parrots,  Severums,  Green  terros....
Indeed  a  lot  of  cichlids  can  indeed  be  kept  in  a  planted  tank.  Including  the  ones  mentioned  by  Madhu,  Even  the  West  african  dwarfs  can  be  kept  in  a  planted  tank.
