 Like  raghav  says,  Buy  6-10  Juvi's,  Once  you  notice  them  pairing  up  keep  the  best  pair  and  sell  of  the  rest.
 Many  a  times  even  if  you  get  adult  male  and  female  and  put  them  together,  they  will  not  pair  up.

 I  will  have  to  disagree  with  rahul  here.  Although  it  is  true  with  most  pairing  cichlids,  convicts  readily  pair  up.  They  are  well  known  to  pair  up  with  other  species  too.

 I  agree  with  Sriram  here,  they  actually  try  to  impress   female  (any  medium  sized,  firemouths,  salvinis,  severum,etc)  cichlids,  when  they  dont  get  attention  they  start  beating  them  to  death  till  the  females  submits  itself,  in  this  rage  small  female  convicts  get  easily  killed  by  larger  males,  it  seldom  happens  in  equal  sized  pair,  decorate  the  aquarium  with  rocks  forming  caves  and  plastic  plants  so  that  female  can  hide  whenever  she  needs  to.  the  males  are  really  unpredictable  sometimes  they  dont  want  females  to  be  seen  in  the  whole  area,  providing  hiding  places  can  solve  this  problem.  I  have  seen  all  american  cichlids  like  to  spawn  in  small  earthen  pot,  they  prefer  it  to  any  other  place  in  the  tank.  so  placing  a  couple  of  pots  can  be  a  good  option.

 Regards
 Hamza

 Chuckle  Its  always  a  case  of  arranged  marriage,  cause  we  get  the  pair  out  of  a  lot  from  LFS,  we  choose  them  they  dont  choose  themselves.  there  are  some  exceptions  like  oscars,  discus,  etc.

 @niranjan
 If  the  room  temperatures  are  around  20-30deg  throughout  the  year  then  you  dont  need  heater,  I  think  you  have  read  this  about  breeding  convicts,  'just  add  fish  and  water',  the  thing  is  temperature  change  must  be  gradual.

 Convicts  will  slaughter  blue  acaras  for  sure..and  the  fish  in  the  pic  is  a  green  terror  not  a  blue  acara  which  for  some  reason  are  really  difficult  to  find.
