Hey  Raghav,  you  seem  to  be  on  a  fish  buying  spree   Smile

 For  feed  :
Freeze  dried  blood  worms,  occasional  live  ones
Tetrabits  /  Good  quality  pellets  /  flakes
Small  peices  of  Prawns  twice  a  week

The  substrate  should  be  of  fine  sand  or  close  to  it.....

Driftwood  or  few  small  pots  for  hiding,

Iif  you  want  to  keep  plants  then  replace  those  plastic  ones  with  Amazon  sword   Thumb Up

 Cheers
 Ravi

..Hey  lovely  Rams,  love  their  blues..

They  are  easy  fish  as  far  as  I  can  tell  to  keep  and  feed.

Mine  eat  anything  I  feed  the  discus,  and  I  have  about  9  of  the  in  a  planted  4  footer...

They  usually  stay  mid  to  lower  levels  and  males  will  mock  fight  with  eachother.

On  the  gender  there  was  a  forum  post  sometime  back  regarding  that.

BTW.  Since  we  are  on  the  topic  I  should  add  after  keeping  them  for  about  a  8  months  now  2  out  of  9  I  have  one  pair,  who  laid  eggs  last  evening.  Was  surprised  as  they  are  very  similar  behaviour  to  Discus,  an  aponogeton  leaf  was  their  arena  and  have  lotsa  tiny  eggs,  the  male  and  female  do  similar  acts  as  discus...and  they  were  there  this  morning  as  well  and  not  eaten  by  the  rest  of  the  fish......I'll  try  to  post  some  pics  this  evening.
Though  I  have  read  they  give  eggs  in  pits  mine  gave  it  on  a  leaf...

Have  fun  with  these  fish  they  are  awesome  to  watch  and  quite  peaceful,  just  add  some  more  plants  and  they  will  look  even  better...

 Cheers,

I  have  12  Rams  for  last  couple  of  months.  I  am  feeding  them  with  Dried  Blood  Worm  and  Tetra  Bits.  The  colors  are  coming  out  in  a  good  way.  But  I  noticed,  the  Rams  are  much  more  interested  in  floating  Dried  Blood  Worms  than  Tetra  Bits.  While  they  will  have  the  food  happily,  you  can  hear  a  chukling  sound  even  from  other  room.  Smile

thanks  for  your  reply  friends  ,

 @  trevor
thanks  for  helping  me  with  the  gender  ,
does  that  mean  that  the  one  in  the  first  3  pics  are  male  and  the  one  in  the  last  3  pics  are  female  ?

 @  ravi
i  was  looking  for  them  in  a  long  time  Smile  ,  these  are  not  easily  found  in  chennai  .  i  had  to  give  my  red  devil  to  my  friend  for  clearing  my  tank  for  these.  (though  i  will  get  it  back  from  him  Later  )  .

 regarding  substrate
can  i  use  ordinary  beach  sand  as  substrate  ,  or  should  i  be  specific  with  some  other  type.  also  can  i  keep  a  power  filter  with  a  sand  substrate  ?  also  can  i  keep  severum  with  it  ,  they  seem  to  be  peaceful  ,  but  sometimes  they  are  chased  by  the  severum  .

Beautiful  rams  Ragav!  you  have  done  the  best  thing  replacing  the  RD  for  these  beauties,  add  some  live  plants,  they  will  really  appreciate  that.  I  agree  with  Ravi(oscar-lover)  on  substrate  part.  They  are  sensitive  to  temperature  changes,  try  to  keep  it  very  stable.
