There  seems  to  be  a  lot  of  threads  about  DIY  fish  food,  so  how  about  having  a  single  thread  where  you  can  post  your  tried  and  tested  recipes  for  fish  food?  If  you  already  have  started  a  thread  where  you  have  shared  your  recipe,  maybe  you  can  just  add  a  link  to  that  thread  in  this  forum.  Hoping  that  we  can  use  this  thread  to  consolidate  your  recipes.  Also  do  let  us  know  which  fish  readily  took  to  your  DIY  recipes.
I  have  a  few  tried  and  tested  recipes  to  share,  but  I'm  not  sure  about  the  exact  quantities  of  each  ingredient.

Hi-Veg  Mix  (Enjoyed  by  danios,  livebearers,  goldfish,  bottom  feeders)
Ingredients:  blanched  iceberg  lettuce,  steamed  green  peas,  garlic,  Becosule  powder,  spirulina  powder.
Grind  into  a  fine  paste  in  mixer-grinder.  Store  in  freezer.

Hi-Prawn  Mix  (Enjoyed  by  fighters,  tiger  sharks,  gouramis,  barbs,  danios,  livebearers,  goldfish,  bottom  feeders)
Ingredients:  boiled  prawn  (de-veined,  shelless),  Becosule  powder,  spirulina  powder.
Grind  into  a  fine  paste  in  mixer-grinder.  Store  in  freezer.

Chicken  Liver  Mix  (Enjoyed  by  fighters,  tiger  sharks,  gouramis,  barbs,  danios,  livebearers,  goldfish,  bottom  feeders)
Ingredients:  boiled  chicken  heart  and  liver,  spirulina  powder.
Grind  into  a  fine  paste  in  mixer-grinder.  Store  in  freezer.

Soyameal  Mix  (Enjoyed  by  gouramis,  barbs,  danios,  livebearers,  goldfish,  bottom  feeders)
Ingredients:  boiled  soyameal,  finely  powdered  fish  food  pellets.
Grind  into  a  fine  paste  in  mixer-grinder.  Store  in  freezer.

These  recipes,  I've  been  feeding  to  my  fish  for  a  couple  of  months,  and  they  are  healthy  and  active.
 So  do  add  your  recipe!

 Hi,
Nice  to  see  you  have  tried  a  lot  of  recipe  for  various  fishes, what  is  the  binder  you  use  for  your  mix,I  feel  without  any  binder  the  tank  will  turn  cloudy  as  soon  as  you  feed.
 with  warm  regards

The  water  surface  doesn't  become  oily...if  it  does,  my  filter  takes  care  of  it.
Ideally,  a  binder  like  gelatin  would  be  helpful  in  some  mixes.  But  the  prawn  mix  and  the  soyameal  mix  hold  together  very  well  and  don't  turn  the  water  cloudy.  The  soyameal  mix  is  like  clay  consistency,  and  seems  to  be  a  fave  among  the  fish.  Thanks  for  the  replies...let  me  know  if  you  come  up  with  any  new  recipes  that  work  well.

This  question  will  stump  anyone.  Smile
No  one  knows  the  size  of  your  fishes,  their  health  and  appetite.  Start  with  a  pinch  and  increase  gradually  making  sure  that  the  food  is  finished  in  a  couple  of  minutes.
Always  feed  less  than  feed  more  since  leftover  food  will  cause  unwanted  problems  in  your  aquarium.

Becosule  probably  indicates  Vitamin-B-complex  capsules.  Break  the  capsules  to  get  to  the  powder.

Spirulina  capsules  are  a  product  from  "Himalaya  drugs".  You  should  be  able  to  find  them  in  any  decent  drug  store  -  I  have  seen  them  in  "Health  and  glow"  outlets  across  Bangalore......a  wee  bit  pricey  -  but  certainly  a  lot  lower  than  a  bunch  of  anubias,  or  a  healthy  Arrowana.

 Best  regaards,

 Arup

Ok  guys,  just  buy  the  Becosule  capsules  (orange  and  black  ones),  pull  it  apart  to  get  to  the  powder.  Spirulina  capsules  made  by  Parry's  will  cost  around  125  bucks  for  60  pills  I  think.  Same  thing...pull  the  capsule  apart  to  get  the  powder.  B'lore  guyz,  you  can  easily  get  these  in  Cash  Pharmacy  or  in  Spencer's  on  MG  Road.  Niroo,  I  can  see  that  your  household  is  total  veg.,  so  best  advice  I  can  give  you  is  soyameal.  It  is  not  soyabean,  but  I  am  not  able  to  tell  you  what  exactly  it  is   Smile  .  Soyameal  is  actually  used  to  make  "fake"  non-veg  curries,  etc,  cos  the  feel  of  cooked  soyameal  in  the  mouth  is  very  much  like  that  of  meat.  Some  people  add  it  to  their  non-veg  kheema  curries  to  increase  the  quantity  and  make  it  go  around  more.  I  am  sure  you  will  find  in  your  local  grocery  store/supermarket.  I  believe  it  is  high  in  protein.
