 Hi  guys,

Does  anyone  know  the  government  rules  for  getting  fish  from  abroad  as  a  hobbyist?  Has  anyone  done  that?  Great  help  if  you  can  let  on.  I  sometimes  go  to  china  and  Bangkok  and  would  like  to  know  if  it  is  possible  to  get  fish  from  there.  Also  any  markets  there  which  you  would  recommend?

If  you  know  the  right  person  in  the  airport  customs  and  ready  to  grease  the  palm.  Otherwise  next  to  impossible.

As  long  as  the  quantity  is  very  small,  I  think  it  shouldn't  be  a  problem.

 Cheers,
 Jai

As  long  as  you  are  not  bringing  in  300  fish  in  at  once,  you  are  ok  Smile
I  know  a  guy  who  got  20  discus  for  himself  and  got  away  with  it.
I  would  go  with  a  smaller  number  though,  5-10  max.

Customs  will  not  worry  you  over  it,  if  you  tell  them  its  for  your  own  use.

I  am  not  sure  what  kind  of  fish  you  want  to  bring,  typically  I  would  try  to  find  fishes  that  are  about  1  -  1.5"  in  size  (mostly  cichlids),  so  that  one  can  bring  safely  about  10-15  fishes  occupying  very  little  volume.

 Cheers,
 Jai

Section  no.  9,  11  &  13  of  Weekend  Chatuchak  Market  (open  on  Saturday  &  Sunday  only),  Bangkok  is  shopper  paradise  for  all  pet  lovers,  specially  for  live  fishes  &  accessories.  Rates  are  damm  cheap.  A  must  visit  for  every  fish  &  pet  lovers.  Thumb Up   Rock On

 Golden  Rules
 1.  Shut  your  mouth.
 2.  Do  not  hand  carry  (cabin  baggage).
 3.  Bring  in  a  small  quantity  only  for  your  own  personal  enjoyment.
 4.  Pack  it  well  and  put  it  in  your  check  in  main  baggage.

After  unpacking  your  fish  inform  your  hobbyist  circle  that  it  is  impossible  to  get  fish  into  India.(optional)

You  check  your  suitcase  with  your  fish  in.  Smile.

You  can  tranquilize  your  fish  so  they  use  very  little  oxygen  while  they  travel.

Madan  and  Adip  had  tranquilized  and  double  packed  (With  a  wet  newspaper  inserted  between  the  two  plastic  covers)  my  adult  piranhas  while  sending  them  inter-city  in  India  by  bus.
This  was  also  to  stop  them  biting  and  making  a  hole  in  the  plastic  bags.

A  reputed  seller  will  know  how  to  pack  his  fish  for  international  travel.  Relax.
