 Hey  Nayak

I  agree  with  you,  i  spent  like  a  year  on  my  3  footer  and  redid  it  about  5  times  in  that  period  before  i  got  the  look  which  was  pleasing  to  me  and  some  guys  can  do  that  in  just  one  go   Chuckle

However  after  being  on  IAH  for  more  than  a  year  now,  i  have  learnt  a  lot  on  planted  aquariums  and  rely  now  more  on  my  ability  to  scape  using  my  imagination  and  the  knowledge  of  how  plants  grow.   Smile

However  i  would  really  be  interested  in  learning  more  about  "Golden  section  or  Golden  Ratio"  ,  do  you  have  any  link  where  i  can  do  some  more  reading  on  this.

Hi  Nayak,  Nice  start.  All  the  best  for  the  project.  One  small  sugession,  how  about  pushing  the  stones  a  bit  under  the  substrate?  It  will  look  much  natural.

Tirtha,  the  substrate  is  ADA  Bright  sand  and  is  no  more  than  one  to  two  cms  thick.  There  is  no  way  to  push  the  rocks.  This  is  going  to  be  a  low  tech  moss  only  tank.  No  Co2.  No  dosing.  An  ultimate  low  tech  Nano  tank.  Smile

Measure  the  length  of  the  aquarium  and  multiply  that  length  by  0.618.  based  on  the  calculation  draw  a  vertical  line  on  front  glass.  Then  measure  the  height  of  the  aquarium  and  multiply  that  length  by  0.618.  Based  on  calculation  draw  a  horizontal  line  again  on  the  front  glass.  Intersection  of  these  2  lines  will  be  one  of  the  Focal  Point  (Golden  Point)  of  your  tank.  We  have  4  focal  points  in  every  tank.   Will  try  to  draw  a  picture  of  it  and  post.  It  will  make  it  easy  to  understand.  Smile

 No  need  for  complicated  maths.

Draw  the  diagonals  on  the  glass  rectangle.  Draw  a  perpendicular  from  each  corner  of  the  rectangle  to  the  diagonals.

The  intersection  of  the  perpendiculars  to  the  diagonals  gives  you  the  focal  points.  Check  Nayaks  drawing  of  the  lines.

 Have  fun.

Interesting,  it  sure  does  take  a  lot  of  planning  to  complete  a  planted  tank...  Very Happy  ,  i  loved  your  illustration  though  i  did  not  understand  anything  out  of  the  picture     Surprised  ...all  the  best  Nayak..

 Hi  People,

 Easy,  yes.
 New  to  us  Hobbyist,  yes.

But  as  a  concept  the  golden  ratio  is  quiet  old.  It  was  called  Phi  and  was  used  by  priests  of  antiquity  in  their  rituals.  It  was  supposed  to  be  sacred.

Later  it  was  used  by  artists  and  architects  in  their  painting  and  constructions  respectively.  The  most  famous  being  Leonardo  Da  Vinci.

According  to  the  "Golden  section"  the  same  sequence  of  rocks  can  be  placed  in  four  different  places  in  my  aquarium.  care  to  guess?  Smile

 Regards,
 Nayak.

Nayak,  what  trevor  suggested  is  what  we  learnt  in  aquatika...that  will  be  the  easiest  and  the  surest  way  to  find  the  golden  ratio...but  since  you  have  already  found  it,  so  no  point  in  discussing  this.

How  ever,  I  saw  your  query  about  how  to  move  the  rocks  with  out  compromising  with  the  GR.  Well,  you  can  easily  do  that  by  keeping  the  main  rocks  in  a  slanted  position  say  at  an  angle  of  60-45  degrees.  that  way  the  base  will  remain  in  the  GR  but  the  main  rock  behind  the  supporting  rock  will  be  in  vision.

Going  further,  I  think  Tirtha,  suggested  correctly  that  if  you  can  add  some  more  sand  at  the  base  of  the  rocks  for  illusion  that  the  rocks  are  half  burried  into  the  sand,  IMO,  it  will  look  better.

Lastly,  good  to  see  you  going  all  the  distance  in  quest  of  a  beautiful  aquascape,  as  I  am  also  a  purist  and  always  try  to  do  all  these  when  I  start  a  new  project.

All  the  very  best  to  you.
