I  never  kept  shrimps  but  now  planning  to  give  it  a  try.  But  before  I  start  off,  I  have  couple  of  questions  to  the  experts.

 1.  Can  I  keep  shrimps  in  a  tank  where  CO2  is  running?

 2.  I  am  using  Microsol/Ferlition  for  micro  dosing  which  contains  little  bit  of  copper.  Is  it  safe  for  Shrimps?

 3.  What  is  the  minimum  and  Maximum  Temparature  required  to  keep  the  shrimps  alive?

 4.  My  water  pH  is  7  (After  adding  CO2  it's  6.5).  So  is  it  a  correct  pH  to  keep  shrimps?

Will  be  waiting  for  your  help.   Smile

I'll  try  to  answer  in  brief,  as  each  question  has  to  be  very  specific  for  precise  answers,  for  example  how  dense  the  plants  are,  bubble  count,  species  of  shrimps  etc.

 1.  Yes,  but  in  the  night  you  should  provide  proper  aeration
 2.  No,  you  may  not  see  immediate  effect,  but  later  the  shrimps  may  just  die  as  the  chemicals  and  metals  accumulate  in  your  tank  or  leach  inside  the  gravel.
 3.  Species  dependent,  but  15-25  are  tolerated  by  all.  Many  get  very  uncomfortable  above  26,  while  others  can  take  it  till  28.  However  generalizations  are  possible.  Moreover  each  shrimp  among  the  same  species  will  show  different  results  as  their  tolerance  levels  will  be  different,  like  the  Amanos  caught  from  Taiwan  will  be  slightly  different  from  those  caught  in  Japan.

Edit:  Most  species  from  Sulawesi,  Indonesia  need  higher  temperature,  the  minimum  being  78F  with  84F  being  optimum.  I  have  heard  Amanos  surviving  at  16C  and  even  at  37C.  RCS  are  known  to  die  at  30-31C.  My  preferred  temperature  for  Amanos  is  26C  (and  I  am  NOT  an  EXPERT).  I  will  shift  them  soon  to  a  non  planted  tank  as  my  plants  won't  do  well  without  the  addition  of  micros  namely  Microsol  B.

 4.  Depends  on  species.  You  have  to  check  individual  species  information.  They  have  very  specific  requirements  for  breeding,  moulting  and  general  well  being!

Seetharam,  just  an  off  thread  question,  do  you  supply  air  with  your  lily  kept  a  little  higher  (surface  agitation)  or  do  you  also  put  in  a  air  pump?  I  had  amano  shrimps  for  almost  a  month  with  n  air  supply  (oxygen)  at  night,  CO2  was  running  24x7.  Advice  please

tirtha  da...as  far  as  i  know  you  usually  doze  high  CO2  in  you  tank...for  that  you  dont  have  to  wait  for  night...during  the  dozing  time  u  will  see  shrimp  deaths...it  will  be  better  if  you  install  a  HOB  or  reduce  Dozing  to  1bps  -  2bps...and  no  microsol-b,  no  blue  or  any  other  types  of  medicine  in  the  tank...cherry  shrimps  can  go  upto  29  degree....if  water  condition  is  well  and  have  plenty  of  O2,  they  can  tolerate  30  degree  too..

Volcano  Bhai,  who  are  you???   Chuckle  Please  update  your  signature  with  your  name  and  profile  with  location  so  I  can  see  who  you  are.  :)

You  are  right.  I  run  CO2  at  4BPS  speed  in  my  120G  but  I  am  planning  to  keep  the  shrimps  in  a  20G  (My  Ex-Anubias  Garden)  only  with  Mosses.  Will  dose  hardly  any  ferts  there  and  will  run  CO2  at  1BPS  speed  only  at  day  time.

 Thanks  for  your  inputs.

yes  tirtha  da  i'm  souvik..and  u  can  doze  macros  regularly...if  ther  is  only  mosses  there  is  no  need  of  dozing  CO2  unless  you  have  atleast  30  shrimps  in  that  tank...in  my  moss  tank  i  have  Christmas  moss,  java  moss  and  taiwan  moss  with  no  CO2...they  are  really  growing  like  hell  that  i  have  to  stop  dozing  the  ferts  too  since  last  month...

Thanks  Shameek  for  IDing  this  Volcano  (Not  dormant  at  all).   Wink

Avik...  Thanks  a  lot  for  sharing  your  experience.  I  never  kept  any  planted  tank  without  CO2  so  need  to  change  my  mind  setting  for  this  tank.

And  what  about  dosing  a  lil  bit  of  Micro  ocessionally  thats  too  a  very  little  amount?

i  never  tried  micros  since  i  hav  seen  shrimp  death  with  those  regular  blue  medicines...if  u  r  going  to  keep  any  other  plant  than  moss  they  u  can  try  the  micros  with  few  shrimps  in  a  experiment  tank  but  if  it  is  moss  only  tank  then  trust  me  those  mosses  dont  need  anything  except  good  light  and  water  circulation....but  if  u  are  about  to  doze  micro  try  it  in  a  experiment  tank  with  few  shrimps

 Tirtha,
HAng  on...where  r  your  shrimps??  Counting  on  the  20-4  from  me   Very Happy  ?  Shrimps  in  my  tanks  are  so  far  doing  fine,  but  I  guess  the  temperature  is  comfortable,  so  is  the  CO2  level.  Just  one  thing,  Shameek  told  me,  "no  copper"  for  shrimps.

I  never  kept  shrimps  but  now  planning  to  give  it  a  try.  But  before  I  start  off,  I  have  couple  of  questions  to  the  experts.

 1.  Can  I  keep  shrimps  in  a  tank  where  CO2  is  running?

Yes,  a  large  tank  with  CO2  is  not  an  issue.  I  recently  had  an  issue  with  a  regulator  which  wiped  out  a  nano  tank  with  fish  and  RC  shrimp  in  it.
The  fish  went  first  so,  shrimps  are  IMO  more  tolerant.

 2.  I  am  using  Microsol/Ferlition  for  micro  dosing  which  contains  little  bit  of  copper.  Is  it  safe  for  Shrimps?

NO.  Any  amount  of  copper  is  unsafe  for  inverts.

 3.  What  is  the  minimum  and  Maximum  Temparature  required  to  keep  the  shrimps  alive?

Species  specific.  15  -  25  should  be  ok  for  most.

 4.  My  water  pH  is  7  (After  adding  CO2  it's  6.5).  So  is  it  a  correct  pH  to  keep  shrimps?

 6.5  is  perfect.
