This is my latest venture: Trying to set up a planted tank with great patience!
Tank size: 30X 15 X 15
Lights: 2X18 watts (T5 fresh water lamps from Arcadia)
54 watts CFL (Osram)
Filter: Eheim (hanging filter)
CO2: With diffuser (2bps)
Substrate: Fertil peat plates, Fondo Vivo, fine river sand
Bog wood: Till now one Mopani mangrove root. Will put one more rootwood
Plants: (Till now) Java Moss, Hemanthius Micranthemoides (I think), Bolibitis Huedelotii, Lobedia Cardinalis, Bacopa, Hygrohilla and couple of more yet to identify.
The tank is 4 days old. Current inhabitants –about 20 Neon Tetras, 4 Glow light Tetras and 5 Ramirezis. I will shift most of the fishes tomorrow.
I do think the tank looks much better than in the photos .
Now the problem: Today evening found the first sign of Brown algae. Did 30% water change. Now desperately need some Otos and Cherry Shrimps.
Please post your comments. Really want this tank to stabilize (had poor luck in the past, mostly because I was too impatient with the aquascape an/or algae). But this time, will be patient.
Tried to upload the pics, but could not. Therefore, posting some links below. Enjoy

Hi Bappa
Looks like a good start, a few queries and suggestions.
1) What is the lighting in the tank? I may be wrong but looks pretty low in the picture.
2) Are you planning to move the fish out? If yes thats a good idea as it is too soon to introduce fish into the tank.
3) Suggest putting some plants in the background.

Abhi: Thanks
Seetha: The light is 90 watts, which is like 3 watts per gallon. The picture (pic 2) was taken with manual settings hence the dark appearance. Actually the tank looks brighter . Fishes will be removed today. Can you tell me how many Neons can I keep in it eventually? Finally, about the plants---they are arriving--lenty of them . So hoping to post some updated pics soon

Tirtha: There is lot and lots of Bolibitis (remember the one I had in the bedoom tank?) , hoping they will grow and not be black in colour. Also, my plants are arriving (including Java Fern, Rotala, parvalaStargrass... and lots and lots of moss) along with red root wood from Rocky . With or without camera anyday, infact if you come around afternoon evening, you will get to see amazing pearling on the moss. I am still trying to figure out how to take a nice photo.

Yesterday, I trimmed the mosses a bit and added the brunchy driftwood. I will soon get some more moss and cover the lastic threads that are visible in the picture. Need you suggestions.
No new additions in terms of flora. No dosing as yet.
Fauna: 2 otos (thats all i could lay my hands on ) and 6 Rosy barbs (to combat my hair algae)
