I  have  a  few  questions  about  starfish...

 1.  Do  i  need  LR  to  keep  a  starfish  ?

 2.  Do  i  need  a  Skimmer  ?

 3.  How  long  do  i  need  to  cycle  a  tank  before  i  can  get  one  ?

 4.  Can  i  keep  one  without  any  tankmates  ?

Keep  the  salinity  stable.  See  that  the  tank  temperature  doesnt  remain  above  28  C  for  very  long.  Always  check  your  No3  nitrate  values.

Which  star  fish  are  we  talking  about.

apart  from  yes  for  1,2,4  and  i  would  say  8  -  10  weeks  for  3  since  your  nitrate  values  would  need  to  be  kept  in  check.

Also  some  star  fish  need  substrate  so  you  will  have  to  work  that  out  depending  on  which  star  fish  you  intend  to  keep.  Some  need  a  corase  substrate  and  some  a  fine  so  research  before  you  buy.

A  Star  also  needs  a  stable  tank  in  terms  of  Nitrates  and  Temperature.  They  are  also  highly  sensitive  to  salinity  changes.

Well  there  is  really  nothing  that  is  easy  to  keep  in  terms  of  star  fish.  They  largely  have  their  own  demands.  As  i  already  mentioned  earlier  they  are  highly  sensitive  to  changes.  Well  i  really  cant  comment  on  which  fish  for  a  nano  cause  i  have  never  kept  a  nano  and  i  dont  like  to  comment  on  things  i  do  not  have  experience  on.

 Cheers
 nirav.

Weylin,  the  above  could  be  somewhat  compatible  with  most  of  the  corals,  as  these  are  only  sand-sifters.  They  cannot  climb  on  to  the  rocks  or  glass  that  easily.  You  may  list  out  the  corals  you  have  in  your  nano.  I  have  seen  these  starfish  touching  only  the  Xenia  that  grew  near  the  substrate.

What  about  the  small  sponge  starfishes?  Can  they  be  kept  with  liverock  and  a  few  beadlet  anemones?  I  got  a  sponge  starfish  and  a  few  beadlet  anemones  from  a  person.  I  am  keeping  them  all  with  a  couple  of  clowns  and  damsels  in  a  3  x1.5  x  1.5  tank.

Am  planning  to  add  a  couple  of  hermit  crabs  and  a  sea  urchin  /  cucumber  too.  Your  views  please.

Guess  you  mean  Cushion  Stars.  Most  from  our  waters  are  not  reef  safe.

 Be  careful  with  Cucumbers.
