Staurogyne  sp.  'Low  Grow'  finally  bloomed  for  me  couple  of  days  back  after  being  in  culture  for  over  8  months.
The  trichomes  (  hair  like  structures)  around  the  bud  are  interesting.

C  pygmaea  spathe  opened  up  last  Saturday.  The  size  of  the  spathe  gives  this  species  its  name.  Pretty  tiny  compared  to  the  plant.  More  pictures  at  Aquamusing.

The  spring  is  here  and  I  have  had  a  few  spathes  pop  up  in  my  crypt  set-up.  One  of  the  more  intresting  one  was  Cryptocoryne  zukalii  spathe.  Cryptocoryne  zukalii  is  one  of  the  rarest  cryptocoryne  in  the  hobby.  It  is  one  of  the  crypts  whose  original  collection  locality  is  not  know.  This  plant  which  I  have  in  culture  has  a  unique  history.  C  zukalii  was  first  collected  and  exported  in  the  70’s.  Jan  Bastmeijer  got  this  plant  from  Robert  A  Gasser(Quality  Plants,  Florida,  USA)  around  1975.  I  got  this  plant  from  Ghazanfar  Ghori  last  year  who  had  got  this  plant  directly  from  Jan.  Now  on  to  the  pictures.

There  are  a  few  more  pictures  at  my  blog  Aquamusing.

While  I  was  at  it,  I  also  grabbed  a  few  shots  of  the  Cryptocoryne  pontederiifolia  which  had  put  out  the  spathe  for  the  Nth  time.

 Bhushan,
Curious  to  know  how  you  provide  the  Macro  and  Micro  Nutrients  to  these  plats.  Do  you  dose  it  to  the  soil  in  the  pots  or  do  you  mix  it  with  your  mist  spray  ?!

I  have  been  using  regular  gardening  fertilizer  for  this  set  up.  It's  called  Miracle  grow.  As  far  as  I  remember  it  has  N,P&  K  in  ratio  of  15:30:15.  It's  a  powder  so  I  directly  add  it  to  the  water.  No  special  micro  dosing  other  than  what  is  in  there.
 Thanks

Most  of  the  crypts  do  not  flower  submerged  easily.  If  you  are  very  lucky  it  will  send  out  a  spathe  under  water   but  the  spathe  will  melt  before  opening  if  it  is  not  able  to  reach  the  water  surface.
Some  species  like  C  usteriana  ,  C  aponogetifolia  ,  C  affinis  etc  can  readily  flower  underwater  and  there  spathes  can  be  long  enough  or  the  water  level  should  be  low  enough  for  the  spathe  to  reach  the  surface.  You  will  have  to  start  off  by  finding  out  what  species  you  have.
