I  just  googled  for  more  information  on  this  Pi  and  found  that  these  can  be  kept  in  pairs..  Is  it  true?  I  wanted  to  keep  a  female  beta  along  with  the  male  one  in  my  community  tank  and  was  advised  against  it  by  the  LFS  person..

Few  wild  ones  are  mild  mannered  and  most  domestic  hybrids  are  really  wild  with  their  mates.  Wink

Beta  i  have  managed  to  get  4  Simorum's  they  are  with  Venkat  in  Mumbai.  I  think  after  he  gets  a  couple  of  pairs  out  of  them  then  you  can  have  a  pair,  its  always  better  to  spread  them  around  after  they  pair  up.  Hopefully  i  will  be  able  to  send  fish  more  often  from  Glasgow.

Oh  ok  that  sounds  good.  How  big  are  they?  I  could  probably  send  my  male  to  him  incase  they  are  big  enough.  No  point  in  me  keeping  this  one  with  me  till  I  find  a  mate  for  him.

Don't  do  that,  Beta.  He  is  not  young  enough  to  safely  travel  across  and  get  used  to  a  new  home,  unless  you  want  to  take  a  chance  on  the  old  fish.

Beta  i  think  he  will  be  a  tad  too  old  for  them,  they  are  about  9-10  months  old.  Best  would  be  to  get  a  female  or  a  pair  from  him  and  see  what  happens.  I  have  also  given  Venkat  Unimacs  so  that  should  be  ready  to  mate  in  a  while,  keep  in  touch  with  him.  I  had  also  got  Betta  albimarginata  but  they  were  the  only  fish  that  did  not  survive  the  journey.  Will  get  lots  more  when  i  come  next,  have  Betta  coccina  breeding  right  now  so  maybe  carry  that  or  send  it  across  next  time.

 Rahul,

Thats  a  nice  betta  pi  you  have   Very Happy  Didnt  know  that  you  keep  any  of  the  waseri  group  of  bettas.Who  did  you  get  them  from?LFS?

 Nikhil,

Recently  i  lost  about  160  of  my  albis  from  one  shipment. My  guess  .....  this  fish  is  not  a  good  traveller  Chuckle  I  have  both  the  jambi  and  Johor  coccina. The  difference  is  that  the  Jambi  ones  have  a  slight  greenish  color  on  its  body.

Sorry  to  hear  about  the  strohi  .....  I  have  not  been  successful  with  them  too  Sad  By  the  way  i  have  a  batch  of  wild  caught  foerschi, uberis  and  others  coming  up  in  the  next  few  weeks.I  am  also  waiting  for  some  one  to  pass  me  some  exotic  parosphromenus  sp.Urrgggh  Can't  wait  and  very  excited  about  the  new  fishes  Cheering  .

Just  curious  how  do  you  send  the  wilds  from  Scotland  to  India???The  customs  back  here  very  strict  now  on  parcels  and  water  based  shipment  send  thru  ems  or  courier  service.I  got  a  few  fishes  returned  to  me  .....  Psttt  ......  They  have  a  new  scanner  at  our  airport  here  Sad

 Shankar  &  Venkat,

I  prefer  to  place  each  species  of  wilds  on  its  own. Most  of  them  require  small  size  aquarium  to  keep  and  breed(1.5"cube  tank).I  have  never  use  any  filtration  for  any  of  my  tanks.A  10%  weekly  water  change(rainwater)  and  the  fishes  are  fed  once  daily  with  2  days  fasting  every  week.

 Beta  &  Nikhil,

I  have  a  2  year  old  male  rubra  that  spawn  with  a  8  mths  old  female  ..........  The  male  is  almost  twice  the  size  of  the  female.Watching  them  curl/spawn  is  hilirious  .......  Amazingly  the  male  managed  to  brood  to  full  term(10  days)  and  released  9  fry.  Clapping

 Rohan,

Come  and  join  us  man  ...  I  think  you  guys  can  setup  a  species  maintenance  program  by  now  .......  Seems  there  are  some  good  wilds  to  start  off  in  your  country.  Smile

 Hi  Haji,

I  think  i  have  both  the  Jambi  and  Johor  coccina  so  lets  see  what  do  i  get.  As  far  as  the  Strohi  is  concerned  i  will  hopefully  see  my  6  left  in  Glasgow  breeding  or  doing  something  at  least.  Rest  i  have  Betta  pi  and  raja  waiting  in  Glasgow  in  my  tanks.

The  import  of  all  fish  is  banned  officially   Very Happy   so  you  need  to  do  it  unofficially.  I  know  some  people  and  that  is  how  i  got  about  60  odd  fish  in.  Was  a  cake  walk  actually.

I  am  hoping  the  species  program  can  be  started  sometime  soon.  Still  a  few  fish  to  get  in.

 Regards

 Haji,

But  the  problem  i  see  with  wilds  is  that  not  many  people  are  into  them.  If  you  see  the  people  posting  in  this  thread  its  just  the  same  old  few  people.  I  have  a  friend  breeding  Betta  smaragdina  and  imbellis  and  he  had  to  stop  breeding  them  as  he  found  no  buyers.  So  lets  see,  if  people  can  show  interest  and  know  that  these  beauties  require  small  dedicated  tanks  to  get  the  best  from  them  then  maybe  a  species  program  can  be  thought  of.

Had.  The  pic  is  a  couple  of  years  old.  That's  the  male  of  a  pair  I  had  in  LA.  They  were  a  wild  caught  import.

 Yes  indeed  Smile
One  of  the  reasons  I  didnt  like  Bettas  was  their  aggressiveness  and  overly  unnatural  fins  and  coloration.  Only  recently  have  I  got  to  know  about  the  'real'  bettas.
Will  contact  the  seniors  when  im  confident  enough  to  handle  things.  Right  now  trying  to  raise  rosy  barb  fry  as  a  learning  process  Smile

Shankar  i  agree  with  you.  That  is  why  i  am  trying  to  get  in  as  many  betta  as  i  can  each  time  i  come.  Hopefully  i  will  be  able  to  send  some  across  again  even  if  i  do  not  come.  I  will  be  speaking  with  Venkat  to  make  it  a  species  program  whereby  a  certain  percentage  of  the  fry  go  to  good  homes  for  free  and  the  rest  can  be  disposed  to  help  him  meet  his  costs.
