Hi All,
Some of my Anubias, Crypts, Java Ferns, Echinodorus Tennelus and Crinum Calamistratum & few stems are highly effected with BBA & Staghorn algae.
Please help me to get rid with them!
The current inhabitants in my tank are Cardinals, RCS & Whiptail Catfish! |

As per my experience, this comes with High Light and Low CO2. Had a attack on my teank recently.
Firstly cut down on your lighting. Increase CO2 to 20-30ppm.
For Staghorn
1. Can be pulled out manually, do this as much as possible from Hardscape,
2. For Stems, cut off the infected parts.
3. Anubias, ferns can be dipped in a 1:20 Bleach Solution for 5 min, then rinse properly with fresh water
BBA
Unlike Staghorn is difficult to take out from whatever it attaches itself to.
1. Spot treatment with Seachem Flourish Excel
Steps 2 & 3 as above |

I was also experiencing the BBA problem with anubias. Its either due to lack of CO2 or due to intense light, even with CO2. I planted all my anubias in a separate tank with pressurised co2 and medium light level. Now my anubias is blooming like anything |

If the anubias are on Rocks, take them out and give a bleach bath. Within week you will get rid of them.
ADMIN/MOD: Please move the thread to correct forum. |

Drop the Anubias with wood into the bleach solution. Nothing will happen to the wood. Maybe it will fade it's color very little that also for couple of days only.
I never used Azoo Carbon, so not sure about the effects and side effects. Won't be able to tell you the result.
To make the bleach solution, add 9-10cap full bleach in half bucket water (Means thats the way I do. ) and drop the plants for a minute. Take them out of solution and wash very well. When you place them back into tank, watch if the BBA turned Red and then turning Gray. That means bleach has started working. |

The way i do is i add 1 part Bleach to 20 part water.....so if its 5 caps of bleach then you put 100 caps of water, you can make it even approx, its not a hard and fast rule.
Rosette & Bulbs plants cut off the infected leaves.
I have RCS in my tank as well, now there are even shrimplets ..... and my CO2 ranges from 20-25 ppm and it has not harmed the RCS. My co2 runs 24/7 but i aerate the water in the night using lilly pipes. What you could do is gradually increase your CO2 over a weeks time, will give time for the fish and shrimp to adjust. but eventually target for a 20-30 ppm CO2 concentration. |

For BBA, you can spot dose H2O2 in the concentrate form using a syringe.
I would suggest spot dosing just before the water change. |

I have a the staghorn and BBA problem in my driftwood too. This week I am just planning to do something outrageous---- they have mostly covered couple of thin branches in the driftwood. Luckily didnt attach any mosses to that drift wood. I a just planning to hold a lighted candle and singe the bba and staghorn. Later will scrap off any carbon deposits (a it is, a little bit of carbon deposit may not be too harmful). Will just be careful enoungh to not burn the driftwoods. Tempted to try this (learning by mistakes), lets see |
