This is Veerendra's planted tank. Veera is from Kasturinagar, Bangalore and is just two and a half months in the hobby.
The substrate - Just plain red soil nothing above or below.
No fertilizers. No Co2. Never heard of it. He will be joining IAH ASAP. He is already very excited about the additions he can do including pressurized Co2. |

My God if he can get it look like this with Just red soil why does he want any additions.
On the the other hand think of what he will produce if he goes all the way high tech. |

His Glosso and hair grass are dead or dying. He had heavily planted them in the fore ground. I will post a close up soon. And also photograph improvements when they happen down the months.
A lot of suggestions have been given which he is slowly digesting. |

Hi Trevor,
I guess you mean to say just plain red soil and gravel on top. |

No gravel on the top. Just plain red soil.
This advice to this newbie came from the LFS who encouraged him to put in Discus in addition to the 160 cardinal tetras, the denisoni, the hybrid zebra danios, the chinese algae eater, the mollies and their fry, the numerious mountain minnows, the rams, and other fish I fail to recall off hand.
I had seen the tank for the first time yesterday. The hobbyist is also to blame for his impulsive buying spree and no research on the subject. |

Venkat. The tank is a four footer. (48" x 18" x 18")
On close examination of the bottom you can see the scanty hair grass and the results of not using gravel to hold the red soil down.
The top is simply super. |
