The trip will be an overnight one.
Depature 11th morning and return 12th night.
Random 2 (Deepak) and Debarghya. Rest assured that your seats have been reserved.
As in all our trips we will give preference to outstation hobbyists.
This will be one hell of a discovery trip. |

Man, is booze allowed in the trip? Don't throw me out, just cause I asked this.
I have heard that fishes like rum, so it may work out in a collection trip. Just my two pence. |

.Deba,
You will be considered an Odd-Ball only if you are a non-boozer because you dont know how many "water barrens" we have with us.
But you just have to wait till the sun goes down |

Deepak,
The route is towards Shimoga stop overnight at Shimoga and back. No one is making it happen, just ignite the fire and you have a huge fire going in no time.
nayak and madhu did a recce a couple of weeks back. We'll do the same route.
Deba booze is allowed, in fact necessary at the end of the day, for me atleast. Boozing in the car is upto the drivers, not allowed in my car.
Dan, call/PM/email one of the guys getting their cars and book a seat. It's better than doing centralised reservation on this thread. |

Thats really good news.
If we are taking the same route, the loaches Nayak and Madhu caught are very interesting and also found that schistura nilgiriensis have been spotted around theerthhalli (if we are going that way).
Are we going to cover Kalasa + Kudremukh and reaching Shimoga on the same day?
If any local help (for non fishy stuff) is needed in Shimoga, I have close relatives there. |

We can't do Kudremukh and get back to Bangalore on sunday evening. Impossible. Guys will want to get back to work om Monday morning.
Sunday morning we can explore around shimoga and start for Bangalore by 1:00 PM.
How far is Teerthahalli and where is it?
Post some more interesting places if you know of in the general direction. I'll check the routes/distances/driving time. If you know condition of the roads better.
We'll avoid bad roads, that fellow navneeth will try all mad stuff on bad roads. Last thing we want is a broken Zen. |

ya, thats what I felt (not possible). Since you said that we would be taking the same route as Nayak did.
If its the direct route to Shimoga: Bangalore - Arsikere - Tarikere - Bhadravati - Shimoga we can easily cover it. Was in Shimoga earlier this month, only bad part seems to be Bhadravati - Shimoga as lot of road repairs are going on. Not that sure about Bangalore - Arisikere part as I traveled from Mysore. But heard that part is pretty decent.
Teerthahalli seems to be further west of shimoga by around 60kms (not sure of the distance). This would have been on the way from Kudremukh to Shimoga for Nayak.
In terms of water bodies, we will get lakes and not much of any rivers till Bhadravati. Bhadra around the town seems to be too polluted. Shimoga - Have to find out some places. Water level was pretty low. |

IMO, the Sharavathi basin would be the best place. Esp. a radius of around 20 kms around Jog falls and Gerosappa reservoir, the irrigation canals and the streams leading to it. Myself and Nayak have scanned almost all water bodies en-route Honnavar. Chances of finding interesting fishes in lakes and ponds are very less but, if we are after plants, they are aquatic jungles out there. Also Kalasa & Kudremukh are further south and we cannot cover everything in 2 days. A clean swipe of a particular radius is what I think would work the best. |
