You  can  add  a  loach  to  the  setup.  But  mind  you,  the  if  you  want  to  catch  and  remove  the  loach  later  on,  its  near  impossible  in  a  planted  tank.

 Rajiv,

The  method  I  have  tested  is  to  set  a  trap  for  them.  Place  a  wide  mouthed  glass  jar  in  the  tank  with  a  bait  (use  the  bait  as  per  your  discretion).  Then  leave  the  jar  in  the  tank  overnight  with  the  lights  turned  off  throughout  the  night.  In  the  morning  you  will  see  many  of  the  snails  in  the  bottle  trying  to  feed  on  the  bait.  You  can  remove  the  glass  jar  full  of  snails.  You  might  have  to  do  this  for  3-4  nights  in  a  row.  But  I  can  assure  you  that  this  is  the  safest  method.

Few  sites  suggest  use  of  copper.  I  am  not  sure  how  safe  this  is.

The  easiest  method  is  to  use  your  hands,  keep  pulling  them  out  on  a  regular  basis,  and  you  will  have  the  population  soon  under  control,  late  night  and  early  morning  most  of  them  are  towards  the  top  of  the  tank,  use  this  time  to  pull  them  out.

Dwarf  puffers  are  good  but  are  very  aggressive  for  the  other  fish  in  yout  tank  (depending  on  what  fish  you  have  got).  Loaches  are  good,  but  with  a  planted  tank,  it  is  impossible  to  pull  a  specific  fish  out  without  disturbing  your  scape.

You  can  try  chemicals  which  kill  invertibrates,  but  this  means,  it  will  also  take  all  your  Shrimps  (if  you  have  any).  Research  all  your  options  before  using  any  chemicals...  that  should  be  your  last  option.

A  lot  of  thanks  to  Udaya,  fishkeeping4fun  and  Shreyasmrao  for  response.

Which  chemicals  can  I  use  to  get  out  them?

 Rajiv,

I  strongly  suggest  not  to  use  any  chemicals  for  this  purpose.  Following  the  other  methods  suggested  above  to  you  should  do  the  trick.   Thumb Up

 Dear  fishkeeping4fun,

Please  post  a  brief  introduction  about  yourself  and  location.  Which  facet  of  the  hobby  interests  you  and  a  note  on  what  you  do.

Rather  than  all  of  us  being  just  a  faceless  nickname,  we  could  associate  each  other  with  this  brief  description.

If  you  think  there  are  thousands,  you  can  use  Pot.  permanganate  and  nuke  the  tank.   5  gm  in  1  litre  of  water  and  1  ml  of  that  for  4-5  litres  of  water  is  the  dosage.

P.S  :  You  would  be  literally  restarting  the  tank  from  ground  0  after  you  use  it.

The  snails  multiply  when  you  overfeed  your  tank.  All  the  leftover  food  and  detritus  make  ptoper  thriving  conditions  for  them.
So  no  matter  whatever  you  do  to  get  rid  of  them,  they'll  multiply  again  in  no  time  if  they're  getting  constant  supply  of  food.

I  cant  say  this  with  surity  but  I  found  rams  picking  on  trumpet  snails  and  at  a  point  I  had  no  more  snails  left,  had  to  introduce  more  from  my  other  tank.

Thanks  to  madhu_ulysses,  Hamza  and  Ranjitpai  for  their  valuable  suggestions.  Today  morning,  I  have  remove  some  of  them  manually.  But  this  is  very  difficult  work.  many  snails  are  hide  behind  the  plants.  I  don't  want  to  kill,  so  i  transfer  them  in  a  small  bucket.  they  can  grow  freely.

Thanks  Boss,  actually  last  week  when  I  made  my  new  tank,  I  was  wondering  if  I  could  also  go  for  a  planted  tank.  I  was  realy  tired  and  bored,  so  a  Bought  1  foot  bowl,  had  some  dry  red  soil  which  I  had  bought  6  years  back,  (full  powdered),  I  planted  the  bowl  and  put  guppies.  I  felt  soooooooooooo  relaxed.  Later  I  read  a  few  post  on  planted  tank  with  garden  soils  and  laterite.  Now  I  am  hooked  Very Happy  .

My  Bowl  started  giving  good  plant  boosts  and  the  plants  have  started  growing.  BUT  NOW!  snails  Crying or Very sad  anyways  I'll  read  the  post  and  get  back  for  more  guidance  if  you  dont  mind?  Smile
