 Hello  Friends,

I  am  currently  in  Australia  and  have  visited  couple  of  LFS  here.  I  want  to  buy  and  bring  Live  Stock  to  India,  any  idea  how  i  can  do  that?

I  shall  be  traveling  through  Singapore  Airlines  on  25th  Sept  from  melbourne  -  Bangkok  -  New  Delhi.

 Please  advice.

 Thanks

I  believe  there  is  a  lot  of  norms  to  bring  them  in  to  India  at  customs.
Not  for  the  Value  of  the  material  but  for  biological  reasons!

some  seniors  in  the  forum  can  help!

 Hi  Asif,

Live  Fish  costs  in  Australia  are  ridiculously  over-priced.  Even  ancient  natives  there  like  Jardini  or  Leichardti  are  sold  at  premium  prices.

It  makes  sense  to  get  livestock  from  South-East  Asian  countries  like  Singapore,  Malaysia  etc.  at  competitive  price.  BTW  which  fish  you  are  planning  to  get?

 Hi  Yogesh,

Primarily  i  want  to  bring  this  turtle:

 Full  Name:  Chelodina  longicollis
Size:  up  to  250  to  260mm
 Found:  in  eastern  Australia
 Food:  crayfish,  tadpoles  and  fish
 Habitat:  swamps  and  creeks
Identification:  green  or  brown  shell,  sometimes  edged  with  black

I  see  it  commonly  in  LFS  here.

If  i  can  get  a  resolution  to  the  bringling  problem  i  can  also  think  of  bringing  some  Australian  Native  fishes

 Hi

If  the  turtle  is  readily  available  in  the  LFS.  I  think  it  is  advisable  for  you  buy  it  from  here  rather  than  take  the  chance  of  squeezing  it  through  Customs  (it  is  not  allowed)  and  getting  into  all  sort  of  troubles.

                      Regards

 Hi  Suneal,

Currently  i  am  in  Australia,  when  i  said  "I  see  it  commonly  in  LFS  here"  i  mean  LFS  in  Melbourne,  Australia.

I  am  in  no  mood  to  squeezing  it  through  customes,  i  will  bring  it  back  home  only  if  it  is  allowed  to  with  some  paper  work

 Hey  Asif,

Sometimes  I  have  seen  while  passing  through  green  channel  in  delhi,  there  is  no  checking  of  any  baggages,  they  just  take  you  on  your  declarations..  but  in  case  they  check  your  baggages  and  spot  the  live  stock,  I  can  gurantee  these  paper  works  even  if  they  are  proper,  would  jut  be  ignored  at  delhi..and  you  will  hear  all  sorts  of  rules  like  quarantine  etc  etc....

Moreover  how  do  you  plan  to  carry  it..  in  case  it  is  in  your  hand  luggage,  you  can  expect  to  face  one  more  restriction  at  singapore/bangkok,  as  the  hand  luggage  would  be  checked  once  again  there...

In  case  you  have  a  non  stop  flight  to  delhi,  you  can  still  take  a  chance,  provided  you  have  luck  and  know  how  of  how  to  navigate  the  customs...

 Regards
 Subhankar

Then  it  is  better  to  drop  this  idea  because  genuine  import  procedure  with  official  paperwork  is  quite  cumbersome.
Suneal  himself  works  for  Customs  and  knows  better  than  anyone  else  how  tedious  job  it  is  to  import  livestock.  viz.official  &  unofficial  both  ways.  Chuckle

Genuine  paper  work  import  also  requires  a  quarantine  period  in  the  government  warehouses.  Are  you  sure  you  want  that  turtle  to  stay  in  there.

Secondly  a  lot  of  species  of  turtles  are  banned  in  india.  The  customs  have  no  clue  on  how  to  identify  these  species  and  in  all  probability  everything  for  them  that  looks  like  a  turtle  is  banned  !  its  just  the  same  as  corals.  So  till  the  time  you  get  a  lawyer  and  a  scientist  who  can  identify  the  species,  i  am  not  sure  you  want  to  spend  that  time  under  detention.

All  this  is  off  course  if  your  baggage  is  checked  and  you  are  not  carrying  enough  $$$  in  your  pocket.  But  since  you  mentioned  regular  paper  procedure  then  i  guess  things  will  be  very  different.

My  Personal  advice  really  not  worth  the  effort.

 Warm  Regards
