Syphoning  of  the  tank  into  the  sump
the  level  of  the  sump  is  draining  exposing  the  pump  to  air
the  overflow  is  not  draining  the  water  quickly  enough
I  am  having  a  lot  of  troubles  :-(

 Hi  Vipul,

If  the  above  is  happening,  why  do  you  want  a  higher  capcity  pump  ?  Its  already  draining  more  water  out  of  your  tank  that  your  overflow  can  handle.

can  you  post  the  pic  of  your  overflow?  Also  how  big  is  the  drain  hole  and  how  many  drain  holes  do  you  have  and  how  big  is  the  return  hole.  In  a  big  tank  like  that  you  need  to  have  2  drain  holes  of  atleast  1  inches  and  one  return  hole  of  3/4  inches.  See  if  you  can  get  a  ball  valve  and  reduce  the  return  some.

I  would  really  like  to  see  your  overflow.  I  dont  see  any  box  for  the  internal  overflow  like  I  have.  The  water  will  drain  slower  than  the  pump  could  pump  it  up,  unless  you  have  very  small  pump.  At  3/4  inches  the  water  will  drain  around  300-350  gallons  per  hr.  How  many  GPH  or  LPH  is  your  return  pump  is  rated  for?  and
 what  is  the
horizontal  distance  and  vertical  distance  from  the  pump  to  the  top  of  your  tank?
   how  many  elbows
and  diameter  of  your  return  pipe?

PostPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 9:30 pm Post subject: these are pretty specfic detail's that u require Reply with quote

I  would  have  to  measure  everything
i  will  post  some  pictures  soon
as  for  the  elbos  their  3  per  hole  that  makes  it  6
it  is  5  feet  bellow  the  overflow  bulkheads
and  horizontal  would  be  around  the  same
i  can  give  u  the  exact  spec's  tomorrow  if  required
the  connections  are  made  from  Rpvc  which  is  a
much  thicker  form  of  pvc  as  i  can  understand  it
therefor  the  the  flow  rate  would  reduce  a  bit  i  guess
the  return  is  a  3/4  inch  return  pipe
the  pump  is  4500  l/h  and  the  other  which  is  connected  to  the  UV  is  1200  l/h
i  would  like  to  run  both  all  the  time
also  the  elbos  r  connected  to  4  bulkheads

If  you  calculate  the  flow  rate  for  your  return  pump  with  the  head  loss  is  app  650  gph  but  your  overflow  can  handle  only  350gph  thats  why  your  pump  is  going  to  push  more  water  than  the  overflow  can  drain  back  into  the  sump.
You  have  2  options,  one  is  you  can  throttle  down  the  pump  by  putting  a  ball  valve,  but  your  flow  will  be  very  low  and  is  not  good  for  the  pump.
Or  you  can  drill  another  3/4  inch  drain  hole  or  drill  the  existing  hole  to  1  1/4  inch.

2  3/4  inch  holes  drain  only  350  gallons  /  hour
I  thought  one  drained  that  much

No,  one  3/4  inch  will  drain  about  350gph  2  will  drain  about  700gph.
