 A  fellow  aquarist  from  Kochi  has  gifted  me  with  a  2feetX2feetX2.5  feet{LBH}  tank.  I  am  aware  that  the  dimensions  are  a  bit  odd,  but  its  a  gift  horse  and  I  didnt  count  the  teeth  Smile  {He  was  kind  enough  drive  up  from  Kottayam  with  the  tank  and  hold  it  in  his  flat  for  a  month  for  me  to  pick  it  up)

 Since  i  really  cant  go  in  for  more  electricity  bills  i  think  a  planted  is  not  an  option.  What  are  the  options  fauna  in  such  a  the  tank?  I  havent  kept  any  fish  larger  than  two  inches  so  far

 I  will  vote  for  Angels!!  Well  kept  angels  look  a  lot  better  than  a  lot  of  overhyped  and  overpriced  fishes.

 Angels  are  good,  till  the  time  you  are  not  getting  a  breeding  pair  out  of  them.  At  that  time  you  have  to  take  the  pair  out.

 How  about  a  community  tank  with  proper  Bottom,  Mid  level  and  surface  dwellers?

 OR  how  about  a  low  light  low  maintenance  Anubias/Crypts  tank?

 A  cichlid  tank.  It  has  the  right  dimensions.  Lots  of  rocks  and  then  either  Tangs  or  Malawis

 If  you  dont  want  angels  then,  pile  up  rocks  in  the  middle  and  put  in  tangs  or  malawis.  Would  be  viewable  from  all  sides.

 +1.  Seen  one  such  at  a  mall  here,  marine  though.  The  same  rock  centred  scape  would  be  fantastic.  But  how  to  impart  that  dark  looks(if  you  want  to  have  it  as  shown  as  a  typical  cichlid  aquarium  in  many  forum)  with  all  four  sides  transparent?

 Hmm  two  suggestions,  what  is  common  to  both  is  that  it  should  be  hardscape  dominated.
 (a)Rock,  lots  of  them  and  cichlids  in  it  (thats  the  latest  bug  that  got  me  as  you  can  see  Smile  )
 (b)  lots  of  driftwoods,  and  a  blackwater  tank  (the  other  bug   Chuckle   Chuckle  ).

 But  seriously,  i  think  a  tank  of  that  size,  which  has  driftwoods  facing  upwards  or  a  rock  mountain  in  the  centre  would  look  terrific.  You  may,  add  crypts  and  anubias  too,  but  may  be  a  zero  plant  tank  can  be  a  good  try

 Thanks  for  all  the  suggestions
 No  angels  for  me,  I  had  to  give  away  four  of  them  last  year  once  they  paired  up  and  started  fighting

 @  Garoth
 I  have  a  planted  tank  full  of  Tetras,  so  no  more  tetras  right  now.

 @Thirtha
 Once  I  start  a  planted  tank  it  gradually  becomes   a  blckhole  for  money.  So  This  one  will  be  a  non  planted  one

 @Bappa,  Vighnesh,  Alistair  and  Suraj
 Cichlids  seem  to  be  the  way  to  go.  I  will  start  reading  up.  Since  this  is  a  long  term  project  i  don't  plan  to  rush  into  purchases.

 Neolamprologus  brichardi  -   a  Google  search  brings  up  Beta's  article  on  Aquarticles  as  the  second  search  result  Smile  He  mentions  that  they  are  difficult  come  across  .
 The  only  ones  that  are  locally  available  in  abundance  are  Metriaclima  lombordoi
