Bharat Bandh gave a much needed free time to sort out a few fishes.
The Loaches and Barilius got their own tank.
Its one month since we caught the Betadevario ramachandrani. Beautiful fishes. The iridescence of these fishes has to be seen to be believed. They have started schooling now and not all that jittery as at the beginning. Even then I have to approach the tank as if sneaking up on a cat.
Two of the Juveniles were engaged in mock spawning yesterday morning, after a water change on Sunday night. Gluttons, they hog everything.
Regards,
Nayak. |

Didn't know they were available commercially (i.e after the first batch came in around early 2008). Are these available easily? |

Why do you think their count in the wild is not that great, as a typical Danionin should be. |

@Shankar,
Didnt know about their commercial availability (at present), thats why the question. And more so as I am interested in having a group. Any chance of getting these? (a PM would also do on the source)
If thats the case, per Rahul's words - Maybe they didnt deserve so much of bloodshed
PS: Actually I was not thinking about their rarity and have no clue on their numbers in the wild. |

I am truly sorry that there was no place for one more guy from Chennai on this epoch breaking trip. Although we should have taken him.
Otherwise this catch would have been one of the rarest of rare catches.
Have to blame Nayak for having only a five seater. |

It was around the same time, a few batches made their way to the south east and were sold under the trade name. Poor collection / transportation / over fishing / greed for more made them poor survivors. There wasn't anything to lose, but a lot to gain, eyeing a new entry into the market.
The recent sensible collection and proper acclimatisation, still without major casualties, proves the above. Now that they'll breed with the chasers, no point in importing them back here. The poachers wont have anything much to do now. : ) |
